Voters in Warren County and surrounding areas headed to the polls Tuesday will cast ballots for a full slate of local, state and legislative contests.
Twelve local and legislative posts appear on general election ballots in Warren County’s 22 precincts, including all three seats in the Legislature and four of five slots on the board of supervisors.
Countywide races include those for tax assessor, district attorney and state senator.
Voter rolls show 35,456 people registered for this year’s general election. Four years ago, 33,207 had registered.
Polls will be open across the state from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., and the National Weather Service is forecasting slightly cloudy skes with temperatures in 50s and 60s most of the day.
Statewide races include:
* Governor, Republican incumbent Haley Barbour and Democrat John Arthur Eaves Jr.
* Lieutenant governor, Republican Phil Bryant and Democrat Jamie Franks.
* Secretary of state, Republican Delbert Hosemann and Democrat Robert Smith.
* Attorney general, Democratic incumbent Jim Hood and Republican Al Hopkins.
* State auditor, Republican Stacey E. Pickering and Democrat Mike Sumrall.
* State treasurer, Republican incumbent Tate Reeves and Democrat Shawn O’Hara.
* Commissioner of Insurance, Republican Mike Chaney and Democrat Gary Anderson.
* Central District Public Service commissioner, Republican Charles Barbour and Democrat Lynn Posey and Reform Party candidate Lee Dilworth.
* Central District transportation commissioner, Republican incumbent Dick Hall and Democrat Rudy Warnock.
* Commissioner of agriculture, Republican incumbent Lester Spell and Democrat Rickey L. Cole and Constitution Party candidate Paul Leslie Riley.
In local legislative races, Republican Briggs Hopson III faces Democrat Eric Rawlings in Senate District 23. The winner succeeds Chaney, a Republican. District 23 covers all of Warren and Issaquena counties, plus southwest Yazoo County.
Rep. George Flaggs, D-Vicksburg, is seeking a sixth term representing city-based District 55 in the state House of Representatives. His challenger is Republican Rick McAlister.
House District 54 will have a new representative, with Republican Alex Monsour, independent Thomas Setser and Democrat Jennifer Thomas vying to succeed Rep. Chester Masterson, who is leaving the Legislature after losing the Republican primary to Hopson in the Senate race.
District Attorney Gil Martin, an independent, faces Democrat Ricky Smith a second time as he tries for a fifth term. Tax Assessor Richard Holland, a Democrat, goes for a fourth term against Pat Ring, an independent.
Supervisor races include:
* District 1 supervisor, where Republican incumbent David McDonald faces independents Margaret Gilmer and Tony Ford.
* District 2 supervisor, where Democratic incumbent William Banks faces independent Tommie Rawlings.
* District 4 supervisor, where incumbent Carl Flanders faces fellow independent Bill Lauderdale and Republican C.L. “Buddy” Hardy.
* District 5 supervisor, where incumbent Richard George faces Republican Joe Wooley, Democrat Frank Gardner and fellow independents Robert Hubbard and Kenneth Sharp Jr.
Constable races include those in the Northern and Central districts. Northern District Constable Glenn McKay, a Democrat, faces Eddie Hoover, an independent. In the Central District, Republican James E. Jefferson Jr., serving on an interim basis, faces Democrat Randy Naylor.
Races in Claiborne County are:
* Sheriff, where Democratic incumbent Frank Davis faces Calvin Lewis, an independent.
* District 1 supervisor, where Democratic incumbent Allen Burks faces James Scott, an independent.
* District 4 supervisor, where Democrat Ronald Shoulders faces John Obie and Earl Wilson, both independents.
* District 5 supervisor, where incumbent Charles Shorts, an independent, faces fellow independents Johnie McDaniels, Henrietta Dorsey Porter and Democrat Daniel Porter Jr.
Races in Sharkey County are:
* Sheriff, where Democratic incumbent Lindsey Adams faces Sharion Duckworth and Leroy “Larry” Lindsey, both independents.
* District 2 supervisor, where Democratic incumbent Melvin Jones faces Paul Tatum, an independent.
* District 3 supervisor, where Democratic incumbent Sam Matthews faces Otis C. Anderson, an independent.
* Post 1 Constable, where Democrat Trent Hall faces independent Sammie Collins.
Races in Issaquena County are:
* Tax Assessor, where incumbent Billy Peterson faces fellow independents B.J. Nicholls, Gwendolyn Bunton Smith and Democrat Deborah Claypool Robin.
* District 2 supervisor, where Democratic incumbent Gene Fulton faces Republican Willie E. Sias.
* District 5 supervisor, where Democratic incumbent Milton Goza faces independent Timothy Howle.
