Sheriff Davis re-elected in Claiborne County votes|[11/07/07]

In Claiborne County, voters re-elected Sheriff Frank Davis on Tuesday, giving the veteran law enforcement officer 2,054 votes over independent challenger Calvin Lewis, who had 734 votes. Voters also named supervisors in three of the five county spots:

* Incumbent Allen Burks kept his seat as District 1 Supervisor with 513 votes over independent James “Ba Ba” Scott, who pulled in 59.

* District 4 Supervisor Ronald “Molly” Shoulders, a Democrat, took in 321 votes, defeating independents John Obie, 144 votes, and Earl Wilson, 35 votes.

* For District 5 Supervisor, Democrat Daniel Porter Sr., took the win with 227 votes over independent challengers Charles D. Shorts, 205; Johnnie McDaniels, 182; and Henrietta D. Porter, 24.

* Unopposed were District 2 Supervisor Michael “Pop” Wells, 492 votes, and District 3 Supervisor Mott Headley Jr., 505 votes.

Also unopposed were Chancery Clerk Gloria Kelly Dotson, 2,588 votes; Circuit Clerk Sammie Good, 2,650; Tax Assessor and Collector Diane T. Davaul, 2,648; Superintendent of Education Annie M. Kilcrease, 2,427; County Attorney Michael E. Keyton, 2,561; County Coroner J.W. Mallet, 2,592; County Surveyor Grady W. Anderson, 2,570; East Justice Court Judge Daniel E. Lucas, 1,284; West Justice Court Judge Jimmy Ellis, 1,319; Constable East Moose Goods, 1,272; and Constable West Roosevelt Dotson, 1,302.

Sharkey County

In Sharkey County, voters re-elected Sheriff Lindsey D. Adams Jr., who pulled in 1,369 votes over independent challengers Sharion Duckworth, 202 votes, and Leroy “Larry” Lindsey, 303.

* District 2 Supervisor incumbent Melvin Jones, running as a Democrat, polled 192 votes to keep his seat against independent challenger Paul G. Tatum Sr., who had 139 votes.

* Incumbent E. Clark Secoy kept his seat as Justice Court Judge Post 2 with 601 votes against independent challenger Leroy “Larry” Lindsey, who had 310 votes.

* Incumbent Constable Post 1 Sammie Collins was defeated with 370 votes by Democratic challenger Trent Hall, who won with 480 votes.

Unopposed were Supervisor District 1 Bill Newsom, Circuit and Chancery Clerk Murindia Gail Williams, Coroner Angelia Bush Eason, Charles Weissinger Jr., Tax Assessor Tracy H. Brown, Constable Post 2 Charlie Marshall and Justice Court Judge Post 1 Treves H. Cooper Sr.

Sharkey County did not tally votes in uncontested races.

Issaquena County

Issaquena County voters elected:

* For Tax Assessor Collector, Democrat Deborah Claypool Robin, won the open position with 270 votes. She was challenged by independents Shaterica K. Cartlidge, 12 votes; B.J. Nichols, 146 votes; Willie “Billy” Peterson, 189 votes; and Gwendolyn “Renay” Bunton Smith, 87 votes.

* Incumbent District 2 Supervisor Gene T. Fulton, running as a Democrat, landed 103 votes over Republican Willie E. Sias, who had 27.

* Incumbent District 5 Supervisor Milton Goza, running as a Democrat, won with 115 votes, over independent Timothy Howle, who had 52 votes.

* Larry O’Neal Franklin Sr. narrowly received the vote as District 2 Western Line School Board with 33 votes to challenger Owen Makamson’s 32.

* Unopposed in Issaquena were Sheriff Richard Jones, 583 votes; Chancery Circuit Clerk Erline D. Fortner, 602; Coroner Anzy Sissy Boyd, 573; District 1 Supervisor Lewis Hatcher, 127; District 3 Supervisor Larry D. White, 96; District 4 Supervisor Michael Parker, 116; Justice Court Judge Post 1 Gayle Bunton Coleman, 323; Justice Court Judge Post 2 Tommy Williams, 235; Constable Post 1 Robert T. Williams Jr., 355; Constable Post 2 Matthew Williams, 222; and South Delta School Board District 1 Margaret R. Marshall, 520.
