Rev. Monsignor Michael Joseph Glynn
JACKSON — The Rev. Monsignor Michael Joseph Glynn died Monday, Nov. 12, 2007. He was 88.
A native of Knockbrack, Athenry, in County Galway, Ireland, Monsignor Glynn served as a Roman Catholic priest in Mississippi for 61 years.
Ordained a priest in 1946 for the then Diocese of Natchez, which at that time covered the entire state, Monsignor Glynn served in Vicksburg, Hattiesburg, Belzoni, Pascagoula, Jackson and Brookhaven. He was the founding pastor of Holy Family Catholic Church in Jackson in 1957.
Monsignor Glynn also served the Carmelite Monastery in Jackson as Confessor and the now Diocese of Jackson as a dean, consultor, member of the Priests’ Council and promoter of justice for the Marriage Tribunal. In 1976, he received the title of Honorary Prelate (Monsignor) from Pope Paul VI.
At the time of his death, Monsignor Glynn lived at St. Richard Catholic Church Parish, where he went to serve in 1981 as associate pastor. In 1993, he reached senior priest status, though he remained active in hospital ministry, having served as Catholic chaplain at the VA Hospital.
Though officially retiring in 2001, Monsignor Glynn continued to visit the sick in hospitals and school children at St. Richard School, where he visited every day and knew each student by name.
Monsignor Glynn was known for his witty outlook on church life.
A prayer vigil, presided over by Bishop William R. Houck, former bishop of Jackson, will be at 6 p.m. Friday at St. Richard Catholic Church. Bishop Joseph N. Latino will celebrate a memorial Mass for Monsignor Glynn at 11 a.m. Saturday at the church.
Monsignor Glynn is survived by his sister, Norah Glynn (a religious sister) of Dublin, Ireland; sister-in-law, Joan Woods of Waltham, Mass.; and several nieces and nephews.
Lillie Mae Jones
Lillie Mae Jones died Sunday, Nov. 11, 2007, at River Region Medical Center. She was 84.
Born in Baskin, La., Mrs. Jones had been a Vicksburg resident since 1986. She was a retired registered nurse and a member of the Vicksburg Church of God.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Ansel Jones; two sisters, Roma Campbell and Nellie Vee Reeves; and two brothers, Edward Lee and R.T. Lee.
She is survived by four sons, William Lee Jones of Baton Rouge, Don Wayne Jones of Southaven, David Lynn Jones of Memphis and William Ansel Jones Jr. of Picayune; one daughter, Lavonne Miller of Newport News, Va.; two brothers, Boyd Lee of Vicksburg and Buddy Lee of Gulfport; three sisters, Eva Ramshur and Claudia Norris, both of Vicksburg, and Shellie Lee of Indiana; and three grandchildren.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Glenwood Funeral Home with the Rev. Tony Winkler officiating. Burial will follow at Wayside Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 until 7 tonight at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Jeremy Jones, Mark Reeves, Phil Jones Jr., Charles Woodruff, Nathan Ross and David Foster.
Anita Overton
Services for Anita Overton will be at noon Wednesday at Greater Mount Zion M.B. Church. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery under the direction of W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home.
Mrs. Overton died Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2007, at River Region Medical Center. She was 88.
Mrs. Overton retired from the Warren County Extension Service. She was a member of Greater Mount Zion M.B. Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Johnnie Overton; and her parents, A.V. and Amanda Cosey McGlory.
Survivors include a daughter, Barbara J. Overton of Vicksburg; two sons, Anthony Overton of Vicksburg and Hardy Overton of Austin, Texas; one brother, Alex Williams of Vicksburg; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.
Bobbie Brady Parsons
EDWARDS — Bobbie Brady Parsons, 62, died Sunday, Nov. 11, 2007 at her home. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Wright & Ferguson Funeral Home in Raymond. Burial will follow at the Edwards Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 until 8 tonight at the funeral home.
Mrs. Parsons was born Jan. 9, 1945, the daughter of Less and Eva Brady. A longtime resident of Edwards, she was a member of the Riverside Baptist Church and enjoyed gardening and flowers. She will be remembered most as a beloved wife, a cherished mother, a devoted aunt and friend to all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Katie McClung.
Survivors include her husband, Edward A. Parsons of Edwards; daughter, Eva Marie Parsons of Edwards; son, Allen Parsons of Vicksburg; brother, Henry Brady of Natchez; sister, May Newman of Idaho; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Robert Williams
DUNCAN, Miss. — Robert Williams died Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2007, at South Sunflower County Hospital in Indianola. He was 62.
Formerly of Vicksburg, Mr. Williams was a resident of Duncan, Miss.
He is survived by two brothers, Michael Williams and Willie Williams, both of Vicksburg; and one sister, Georgia Hardman of Greenville.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Shelby, Miss., with the Rev. Anthony Pitts officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of Byas Funeral Home of Shelby.
