Rev. Douglas Leon Bryant Sr.

The Rev. Douglas Leon Bryant Sr. died Friday, Dec. 14, 2007, at his home. He was 59.

Mr. Bryant was the minister of two churches

He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Bryant Sr.; his mother, Clara Garner Bryant; a brother, Quincy Dale Bryant; and a sister, Ernie Jones.

Survivors include his wife, Eddie Bright Bryant of Vicksburg, two sons, Douglas Leon Bryant Jr. of Leland, Mich., and Algie Decarol Bryant of Atlanta; a daughter, D. Shantay Thompson of Vicksburg; three brothers, Robert Bryant Jr. of Franklin, La., John Bryant of Baton Rouge and Melvin Bryant of Compton, Calif.; four sisters, Lillian Walker of Vicksburg, Annette Pilgrim of Compton, Bettye Ray Woods of Long Beach, Calif. and Thelma Martinez of Moreno Valley, Calif.; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Dennis Flowers Jr.

Services for Dennis Flowers Jr. will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until 7 p.m. today at Williams Funeral Service.

Mr. Flowers died Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2007. He was 77.

He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. He was retired from Anderson-Tully.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Magnoria “Sprouse” Flowers and Dennis Flowers Sr.; two sons, Lawrence Flowers and Lonnell Flowers; three brothers, William Flowers, Robert Wayne Flowers and Carl Flowers; a sister Ruby Flowers; and grandparents, Ella and Lawrence Sprouse.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret Johnson Flowers of Vicksburg; three sons, Marvin Flowers of Jackson, Ronnell Flowers of Fulton, Calif., and Dennis Flowers III of Vicksburg; a daughter, Renee Flowers Frizzle of Crestview, Fla.; two brothers, Edward Flowers of Vicksburg and Michael Flowers of Brandon; a sister, Gladys Flowers Cage of Chicago; a stepmother, Gleneva Bowman Flowers of Chicago; grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.

Lynette Loflin Nybo

Lynette Loflin Nybo died Thursday, Dec. 13, 2007, at Rush Foundation Hospital in Meridian, Miss. She was 86.

Born in Vicksburg, she was the daughter of the late Edgar C. Loflin Sr. and Della Griffin Loflin. She was a former resident of Vicksburg, of Bay St. Louis and had been a resident of Meridian for the past two years.

Mrs. Nybo was a graduate of Carr Central High School and attended Millsaps College and Meridian Junior College. She was a member of Main Street United Methodist Church in Bay St. Louis.

She is survived by her husband, Lelyn Warren Nybo Sr. of Meridian; two daughters, Valorie Elaine Nybo and her partner, Susan Atlas, of Sylva, N.C., and Cheryl Lynn Masters and her husband, Robert, of Memphis; three sons, Lelyn Warren Nybo Jr. of Columbus, Edgar Gilbert Nybo and his wife, Lorraine, of Bay St. Louis, and Stephen Alan Nybo of Starkville; a daughter-in-law, Linda Nybo of Knoxville, Tenn,; four grandchildren, Eric Nybo, Emily Nybo, Lelyn Masters and Nathan Masters; and a brother, E.C. Loflin Jr. of Vicksburg.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Riles Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Geoffrey Joyner officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be at Riles Funeral Home from 1 p.m until the service Monday.

Eddie Thomas Smith Sr.

Eddie Thomas Smith, Sr., died Saturday, Dec. 15, 2007, at River Region Medical Center. He was 80.

A lifelong resident of Vicksburg, Mr. Smith was the son of the late Ernest Q. Smith and Minnie Muirhead Smith.

He was retired from the Illinois Central Railroad and farming interests. He served in the U.S. Navy in World War II and was a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church.

Mr. Smth was preceded in death by a grandson, Eric Smith; three brothers, Austin Smith, David Smith and E.Q. Smith Jr.; and three sisters, Dorothy Floyd, Ernestine Tompkins Jones and Gertrude Ransome.

He is survived by his wife, Elnora Wilson Smith; three daughters, JoAnn Oliver and husband, Dale, of Vicksburg, Judy Brantley and husband, Andy, of Cleveland, and Joan Farish and husband, Robert, of Vicksburg; one son, Eddie T. Smith Jr. and wife, Shelia, of Vicksburg; six grandchildren, Brooke Sorrells and husband, Chad, of Starkville, Andrew Brantley and wife, Niki, of Bolton, Lisa Myers and husband, Matt, of Franklin, Tenn., and Brittany Oliver, Dustin Smith and Brandon Smith, all of Vicksburg; two great-grandchildren, Alex Sorrells of Starkville and Saylee Grace Brantley of Bolton; and one sister, Mary Lois Thompson of Vicksburg.

Visitation will be from 5 until 7 p.m. Monday at Riles Funeral Home. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the Riles Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Kent Campbell, pastor of Woodlawn Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Fred Keys Jr., Keith Keys, Larry Keys, James Keys, Clyde Ray Arnold, Bennie Wilson, Bob McAllister, Kent McAllister and Paul Harbin.

Honorary pallbearers will be Steve Cook, Phil Irwin, Johnny Brewer, Randle Kincaid, Joseph B. Scott Jr., Lee Pennebaker and Buddy Douglas.

Memorials may be made to Woodlawn Baptist Church, 2310 Culkin Road, Vicksburg, MS 39183, or to the Eric Smith Spirit and Desire Scholarship at Trustmark Bank.

The family would like to express their appreciation to the physicians and the ICU nursing staff of River Region Medical Center for their care and concern for their husband, father and grandfather.

Vera Mae Sullivan

Vera Mae Sullivan died Friday, Dec. 14, 2007, at River Region Medical Center. She was 74.

Mrs. Sullivan was born in Yazoo County and attended Satartia High School. A longtime Vicksburg resident, she was a homemaker and a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Edward Ferrell.

Survivors include her husband, Jimmy Sullivan of Vicksburg; eight sons, Bill Tennant, Richard Tennant, Eddie Tennant, Ronnie Sullivan, Edward Sullivan, Sammie Sullivan, David Sullivan and Wendell Sullivan, all of Vicksburg; two daughters, Rebecca Kirkley and Terry Spears, both of Vicksburg; a brother, Sam Ferrell of Vicksburg; 17 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Glenwood Funeral Home with the Revs. Dwight Sibley and Ricky Dorrell officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 until 5 this evening at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Johnny Kight, Chris Carter, David Lowery, Wayne Carter, Paul Guin and Virgle Carter. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Gilbert and James Gilbert.
