Rev. Douglas Leon Bryant Sr.
Services for the Rev. Douglas Leon Bryant Sr. will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Vicksburg City Auditorium with the Rev. Willie White officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 until 8 tonight at W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home.
Mr. Bryant died Friday, Dec. 14, 2007, at his home. He was 59.
Born in Vidalia, La., Mr. Bryant was the minister of two churches — Greater Oak Grove M.B. and Pleasant Valley M.B.. He was a U.S. Army veteran of Vietnam and a member of the Warren County Ministerial Alliance and the Willing Workers Club.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Bryant Sr.; his mother, Clara Garner Bryant; maternal grandparents, Stella Garner and Pink Garner; paternal grandparents, Ernest Bryant and Mattie Bryant; a brother, Quincy Dale Bryant; and a sister, Ernie Jones.
Survivors include his wife, Eddie Bright Bryant of Vicksburg, two sons, Douglas Leon Bryant Jr. of Leland, Mich., and Algie Decarol Bryant of Atlanta; a daughter, D. Shantay Thompson of Vicksburg; three brothers, Robert Bryant Jr. of Franklin, La., John Bryant of Baton Rouge and Melvin Bryant of Compton, Calif.; four sisters, Lillian Walker of Vicksburg, Annette Pilgrim of Compton, Bettye Ray Woods of Long Beach, Calif. and Thelma Martinez of Moreno Valley, Calif.; and three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Fannie Clark
TALLULAH — Services for Fannie Clark will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at New Hope M.B. Church, 1106 W. Craig St., Tallulah. Visitation will be from 1 until 6 tonight at Williams Funeral Service, 3400 Washington St. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Tallulah.
Ms. Clark died Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2007, at Olive Branch Nursing Home in Tallulah, La. She was 95.
Mary Little
GROESBECK, Texas — Mary Little died Sunday, Dec. 16, 2007, in Groesbeck, Texas. She was 79.
Born in Carpenter, Mrs. Little spent most of her life in Utica and was a resident of Groesbeck. She was a member of Carpenter Methodist Church, VFW Ladies Auxiliary 2572 and American Legion Post 3.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jesse E. and Lona Lee Storey Strong; and two brothers, Luther Jim Strong and Jessie Lee Strong.
She is survived by two sons, Robert Nicholson and Larry Nicholson of Groesbeck; an adopted son, Zac Ward of Kill Devil Hills, N.C.; two daughters, Denise Bond and Diane Sanders, both of Utica; two sisters, Marjorie Pearl Moody and Gladys O’Hara; two brothers, Walter Norris Strong and Joe Tom Strong; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Services were at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Groesbeck Funeral Home with Greg Sackett officiating. Burial followed at Faulkenberry Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Alan Holmes, Jay Sanders, Neil Wayne Clay Jr., Larry Dempsey, Henry Sanders and Bob Barrington.
Debra G. Scott
Memorial services for Debra G. Scott will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home with the Rev. Gregory Taylor officiating.
Mrs. Scott died Sunday, Dec. 16, 2007, at River Region Medical Center. She was 51.
Born in Vicksburg, Mrs. Scott was a homemaker and member of King David M.B. Church No. 2.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James J. Harris and Evelyn M. Tolliver Middleton; a brother, Harold L. Givens; a sister, Delphine Smith; and maternal grandparents, Roxie and Elijah Tolliver.
She is survived by her husband, Albert Scott; three brothers, Benjamin James Givens of Vicksburg, Joel C. Givens of Atlanta, and Dennis L. Givens of Florence; and three sisters, Dobra D. Bullum and Nadia C. Middleton, both of Vicksburg, and Alexis Luckett of Jackson.
Joyce S. Shiers
Joyce S. Shiers died Thursday, Dec. 20, 2007, at River Region Medical Center. She was 73.
A native and lifelong resident of Warren County, Mrs. Shiers was the daughter of the late Kline and Janette McMillan Stanford.
She and her husband owned and operated Shiers Grocery for 18 years. She worked at Rainbow Casino for eight years and received a money management certificate from University of Mississippi. She was a member of Wayside Baptist Church and Levi’s.
She is survived by her husband, James “Bud” Shiers; two sons and Jimbo Shiers and Rocky Shiers; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Fisher Funeral Home with the Rev. Jason Wooley officiating. Burial will follow at Green Acres Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 until 7 tonight at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Zach Shiers, Cory Shiers, A.J. Beard, Joseph Beard, Todd Myers and Nick Shiers.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of Wayside Baptist Church and Levi’s.
John Mathis Trichell
John Mathis Trichell died Thursday, Dec. 20, 2007, at his residence. He was 61.
Born in Delhi, La, he was the son of the late James Mathis Trichell and Organtra Mooney Trichell and a graduate of Tallulah High School.
Mr. Trichell retired in 1982 from the Vicksburg Fire Department with the rank of captain with 13 years of service. At the time of his death, he owned and operated John’s Barber Shop.
Mr. Trichell was a member of Bowmar Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Donald W. Trichell and James Grady Trichell.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia R. Trichell of Vicksburg; a daughter, Sheri T. Ghrigsby of Vicksburg; a son, Sean Mathis Trichell of Shreveport, La.; four grandchildren, Sara Trichell, Ashton Ghrigsby, Josh Collins and Cami Ghrigsby; two sisters, Kathy Trichell Gilstrap of Monroe, La., and Dottie Trichell Battaglia of Columbia, La.; and a brother, Calvin T. Trichell of Marksville, La.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Riles Funeral Home with the Rev. John Rushing, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Tallulah, officiating. Burial will be at the Memorial Park Cemetery of Tallulah.
Visitation will be from 5 until 7 tonight at Riles Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Doug Upchurch, Peter Mims, George Lee, Martin Pace, Tommy Trichell, Jessie Baker, Claude King, Gene Perot and Donald Robinson.
Honorary pallbearers will be friends and customers of John’s Barber Shop.
