Burton Duke Brown Jr.

Services for Burton Duke Brown Jr. will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home with the Rev. Sam Lee officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 until 7 tonight at the funeral home.

Mr. Brown died Monday, Dec. 24, 2007, at his home in Vicksburg. He was 71.

A veteran of the Army, Mr. Brown managed Tic Toc Beverage Store for more than 20 years.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Rose Marie Gallo Brown; and his parents, Burton Brown Sr. and Etta Brown.

Survivors include a daughter, Debra Lynn Nix of Vicksburg; two brothers, Lamar Brown of Vicksburg and Harold Dean Brown of Kosciusko; three grandchildren; and other relatives, including Frank E. Marley Sr., Ledora Marley, Bettye Marley and Elma D. Brown, all of Vicksburg.

Frank Edward Shanahan Jr.

JACKSON — Mr. Frank Edward Shanahan Jr., 84, passed away Dec. 12 at the St. Dominic Jackson Memorial Hospital after a long illness. He had been a resident of the State Veterans Home in Jackson. A private family memorial service will be conducted, with interment in the Natchez Trace Memorial Park Cemetery in Madison.

Mr. Shanahan was a native of Vicksburg and was the son of the late Frank Sr. and Perle Williamson Shanahan. He attended school in Vicksburg and graduated from Carr Central High School. He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict, serving in the U.S. Army. He was a graduate of the University of Mississippi, where he earned a business degree and a law degree. Following graduation, he became the first executive secretary of the Workmen’s Compensation Commission.

He practiced law in Vicksburg for many years and was Warren County’s representative in the Mississippi House of Representatives from 1956 to 1968. He also practiced law in Pascagoula before joining the State Attorney General’s Office in Jackson as the assistant attorney general assigned to the State Highway Department as chief counsel. He retired from State employment in 1984.

He and his wife, June, made their home in Brandon and were members of Crossgates United Methodist Church. In later years the Shanahans lived at Sunnybrook Retirement Home in Madison.

Mr. Shanahan is survived by his wife of 62 years, June Nailor Shanahan of Madison; sons, John M. Shanahan and wife, Janice Gober, of Sarasota, Fla., and Robert P. Shanahan and wife, Ava Hay, of Memphis; two grandchildren, Ryan and Joe Shanahan of Cookeville, Tenn.; and one brother, James Louis Shanahan and wife, Anne, of Trophy Club, Texas.

Paul Edward Walker

Paul Edward Walker died Thursday, Dec. 27, 2007, at his home in Vicksburg. He was 70.

Mr. Walker was born and raised in Vicksburg on Dec. 25, 1937, in VIcksburg. He was a graduate of Louisiana State University. He served in the U.S. Army. He spent most of his life in Seattle, Wash. A crew scheduler, he retired from Alaska Airlines and was employed at Rockler Woodworking Store. He returned to Vicksburg two months ago.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Neal and Ollie Mae Walker; and a brother, Bud Walker.

Paul will be greatly missed by his family, friends in Seattle, and the best cats in the world, Peaches and Rusty.

He is survived by two brothers, Neal Walker Jr. of Donaldsonville, La., and Dr. Gene Walker of Vicksburg; and a sister, Pauline Renfrow of Vicksburg.

Memorial services are scheduled for a later date.
