Candis Shorter
HERMANVILLE — Services for Candis Shorter will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church in Hermanville with the Rev. Johnnie Hughes officiating. Burial will follow at Hermanville Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 until 6 tonight at Thompson Funeral Home and from noon until the service Wednesday at the church.
Mrs. Shorter died Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2007, at Vicksburg Convalescent Home. She was 86.
She was preceded in death by her parents and five children, Woodrow Shorter, Monroe Shorter, Arthur Shorter, Jackson Shorter and Johnny Lee Shorter.
She is survived by her husband, Matthew Shorter of Hermanville; four sons, Matthew Shorter Jr. and Jerry Shorter, both of Hermanville, Abraham Shorter of Redlick and Albert Shorter of Vicksburg; five daughters, Sarah Barnes of Port Gibson, Adlean Dennis of Fish Kills, N.Y., Margaret Smith and Carrie Shorter, both of Hermanville, and Florine Chase of Utica; two brothers, the Rev. Horace McBride of Hermanville and Edward Heath of Port Gibson; 21 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; other relatives; and friends.
William “Billy” Ray White
BAYTOWN, Texas — William “Billy” Ray White died Sunday, Dec. 29, 2007 at his home in Baytown. He was 70.
A native of Vicksburg, Mr. White was a U.S. Navy veteran and had retired from Houston-based Brown and Root, now called KBR.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Vergie; his parents, W.H. and Fannie White, both of Vicksburg; a brother, John W. White of Loveland, Colo.; and a sister, Agnes Thompson of Vicksburg.
Survivors include two brothers, Bobby G. White of Edwards and Robert L. White of Delta; five sisters, Irene Jones of Delta, Faye Willis of Utica and Lois Holdiness, Carolyn Hearn and Ellean Lowery, all of Vicksburg; and nieces, nephews and friends.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Navarre Funeral Home in Baytown with the Rev. Ken Goodall officiating. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until the service. Burial will follow at Palms Memorial Park in Dayton, Texas.
Pallbearers will be Kevin Solis, Robert Wingo, Terry Dodd, Larry Albritton, Jack King and Tex Munson.
