Myrtis Shaw McLellan Carroll

DURANT — Myrtis Shaw McLellan Carroll went to be with her Lord on Thursday, Jan. 24, 2008. She was a resident of Vicksburg Convalescent Home and was 90 years of age. Mrs. Carroll was born in Hinds County on June 9, 1917, and had lived in Durant, Miss., for most of her adult life. She moved to Vicksburg in 2002 to be near her daughter and family.

She was the daughter of Wallace and Ida Rebecca Ellison Shaw, who preceded her in death. She was left an orphan at the age of 10 and went to live with her foster mother, Sallie McLellan, who preceded her in death. Also preceding her in death was her beloved husband of 44 years, Sam McLellan; and her husband, Richard Carroll, whom she married later in life. She was also preceded in death by a brother, J.T. Vines; a sister, Addie Lou Roberts; and two nephews whom she reared, Harvey Roberts and Elvis Earl Roberts.

She is survived by one son, James McLellan of Sallis; and two daughters, Dot McGee and her husband, James, of Vicksburg and Carol Downing and her husband, John, of Hattiesburg. Also surviving her are nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to rearing her family, Mrs. Carroll worked for many years in retail business and retired from Talon Inc. of Durant. She was an active member of Durant United Methodist Church until she moved to Vicksburg. She was also a member of the B&PW Club of Durant and especially enjoyed her weekly card games with friends.

Funeral services will be at Southern Funeral Home in Durant at 3 p.m. today with the Rev. Gus Shelley officiating. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until the service at the funeral home. Burial will be at Mizpah Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be grandsons and great-grandsons.

Lula Mae Lee

EDWARDS — Services for Lula Mae Lee will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Mount Pleasant M.B. Church in Edwards. Burial will follow at the church cemetery under the direction of Randle Memorial Chapel of Jackson.

Mrs. Lee died Monday, Jan. 21, 2008, at her daughter’s home in Vicksburg. She was 98.

Mrs. Lee was the oldest member of Mount Pleasant M.B.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Willie and Ollie B. Rozell; her husband, Leroy Lee; a sister, Matie Rozell; and four brothers, Promise Rozell, Charlie Rozell, Henry Rozell and James Rozell.

Survivors include six sons, Chester Lee of Jackson and Willie Lee, James Lee, Promise Charles Lee, Aaron Lee and Jasper Lee, all of Edwards; two daughters, Beatrice Nelson of Edwards and Mattie Jones of Vicksburg; and grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Jessie Moseley

Jessie Moseley died Thursday, Jan. 24, 2008, at Vicksburg Convalescent Home. He was 62.

Mr. Moseley was of the Baptist faith. He was a retired City of Vicksburg Water and Gas employee.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Eddie James Moseley and Geneva Clark Moseley.

He is survived by a brother, Willie James Moseley of Vicksburg; a sister, Dorothy Brown of Fayette; and nieces, nephews and cousins.
