James R. Evans
James R. Evans died Saturday, Feb. 16, 2008, at Promise Specialty Hospital. He was 82.
Mr. Evans was a lifelong resident of Vicksburg. He was a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Verna Evans; a sister, Madge Gillis; and three brothers, Jessie Evans, Melvin Evans and Bobby Evans.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret Evans of Vicksburg; one son, Jimmy L. Evans and wife Betsy of Newellton; two daughters, Joyce Doak and husband James of Birmingham and Karen Goodnight and husband Al of Vicksburg; two brothers, Lee Evans and wife Martha of Vicksburg and Sidney Evans and wife Eva of Jackson; one sister, Dolly Gillis of Alabama; and seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Glenwood Chapel with the Rev. Kent Campbell officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 until 7 this evening.
Pallbearers will be Steven Evans, Mickey Howard, Marvin Nelson, Jay Tidwell, Kevin Garner and Gary Evans.
Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Thomas Sligh, Dr. Daniel Edney, Whitney Doiron, the second floor staff of Promise Hospital of Vicksburg, the fifth floor staff at River Region Medical Center and the staff of Deaconess Home Care.
Exl Thomas
URBANA, Ill. — Exl Thomas died Saturday, Feb. 16, 2008, in Edwards. He was 70.
Mr. Thomas was a former Edwards resident and had lived in Urbana, Ill., for a number of years. He was employed by the City of Urbana Street Department.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John W. and Sallie Thomas; and one brother, Dr. Roosevelt Thomas.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Jones Thomas of Urbana; two sons, John W. Thomas and Maurice Sayles, both of Urbana; one daughter, April Thomas of Urbana; two brothers, Chester Thomas and Oscar Thomas, both of Edwards; and three sisters, Mary Ethel Rhodes of Urbana, Claudette Thomas of Clinton and Ethel Thomas Heard of Edwards.
Services will be Saturday in Urbana.
Visitation will be from noon until 4 p.m. Tuesday at Lakeview Memorial Funeral Home and from 6 until 8 p.m. Tuesday at Ratliff Chapel M.B. Church, Mississippi 22 North, in Edwards.
