Ameristar evacuates top floor after fire reported|[03/04/08]

About 200 employees and patrons of Ameristar Casino’s third-floor eating areas were evacuated Sunday after a small fire broke out near Bourbon’s Restaurant and the Heritage Buffet.

Vicksburg firefighters responded at 5:56 p.m. to the fire, which started in the executive chef’s office, Chief Keith Rogers said. Heating devices used to warm the buffet food were ignited by the initial fire, which was extinguished by 6:36 p.m., Rogers said.

Evacuations did not happen during the casino’s peak business hours, Ameristar spokesman Bess Averett said this morning.

The cause of the initial fire was not known, Rogers said.

City man charged with aggravated assault

Aggravated assault charges landed a Vicksburg man in jail Monday.

Edward Dill, 21, 1313 Walnut St., was arrested by Warren County deputies at 3:17 p.m. No location of the arrest was available.

Dill posted a $2,500 bond and was released from the Warren County Jail Monday.

Cell phone missing in auto burglary

A cell phone was reported stolen from a car Monday.

The auto burglary took place in the 3600 block of Washington Street and was reported to Vicksburg police at 11:07 p.m. The Razr phone was valued at $229.
