Daniel Paul Blok

Daniel Paul Blok died Sunday, March 2, 2008, at his home in Vicksburg. He was 21.

Mr. Blok was a native of Texas and had been making his home in Vicksburg since 1994. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and a loving father and son. He had attended Warren Central High School and attended Highland Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Larry Morgan; and his great-grandfather, Leonard Grey.

He is survived by his companion, Jamie Johnson of Vicksburg; one son, Hunter James Blok of Vicksburg; one daughter, Carlie Elizabeth Blok of Vicksburg; his father, Mark Blok and companion Joanne Starzec of Elgin, Texas; his mother, Lareina Ashley of Vicksburg; a brother, Jaime Blok of Vicksburg; a sister, Amber Blok of Vicksburg; his aunt and uncle, Jaclyn and Brian Morgan of Vicksburg; his maternal grandmother, Joan Whitehead of Vicksburg; his paternal grandfather, Raymond Blok of Cleveland, Texas; and numerous other relatives.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Glenwood Funeral Home with the Rev. Ronnie O’Quinn officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. Friday until the hour of the service at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Trent Smith, Carl Kolb, Brian Caves, Destry McDaniel, Chris Beard and Chris Pecanty.

Honorary pallbearer will be Sandy Whitehead.

David Wayne Garrett

David Wayne Garrett died Tuesday, March 4, 2008, at University Medical Center in Jackson. He was 45.

Born in Vicksburg, Mr. Garrett was a 1980 graduate of Warren Central High School. He was a cashier for Kangaroo Stores and The Pantry Inc. He was of the Baptist faith.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Thelma Garrett Jefferson; his paternal grandparents; and his maternal grandparents, Bertha Trisby and Charlie Myles.

Survivors include a daughter, Angel Haggan of Vicksburg; his father, Joseph Jefferson Jr. of Vicksburg; two brothers, Donald James Garrett of Vicksburg and Alvin Ray Garrett of East St. Louis, Ill.; seven sisters, Shirley Garrett Swartz, Sandra Garrett Grown and Brenda Garrett Free, all of Vicksburg, Patricia Garrett Gilmore of Jackson, Penny Garrett Woodberry of Raymond, Lucy Garrett Jones of Columbus, Ga., and Susan Garrett Neal of Cordova, Tenn.; three grandchildren; and nieces, nephews and other relatives, including Levirta Harris of Chicago and Angster Hall of Vicksburg.

W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Laura Lowe

Services for Laura Lowe will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Mark Freewill Baptist Church with Elder Curtis Ross officiating. Burial will follow at Porters Chapel Cemetery under the direction of Williams Funeral Service.

Ms. Lowe died Friday, Feb. 29, 2008, at River Region Medical Center. She was 101.

Ms. Lowe was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings.

Survivors include nieces, caregiver April A. Jones and Judith P. Hodge, both of Vicksburg, and Linda M. Griffith of Fort Worth, Texas; and nephews, Charles Jones Jr. of Vicksburg, Howard Wesley McGee of Fort Worth, Larry L. Lewis of Victorville, Calif., Jeremy Cooper of Washington, D.C., and Angelo Taylor of Pollock, La.
