John William Barnes

John William Barnes died Thursday, March 6, 2008, at his mother’s home. He was 34.

Born in Vicksburg, Mr. Barnes lived in Pearl for several years and had lived with his mother for the past three years. A 1992 graduate of Vicksburg High School, he served in the U.S. Army. He had worked for Vicksburg Toyota, Miller Tire Mart, Ergon-Magnolia Marine, LeTourneau, UPC, Kroger, Al Whitehead Auto Specialists and Hallmark Toyota of Jackson.

He was of the Baptist faith.

He was preceded in death by his father, William Dale Barnes; his paternal grandparents, John Marion Barnes and Icy Mae Barnes; and his maternal grandparents, Fred Lynn Sr. and Mary Ellen Manning Lynn.

Survivors include his wife, Amy Hanks Barnes of Clinton; his mother, Patricia Lynn Barnes of Vicksburg; his stepmother, Lott Barnes of Fayetteville, Ark.; one sister, Wendy Lynn Hunt of Vicksburg; and his nieces, Brittney and Heather Hunt of Vicksburg.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Glenwood Funeral Home with the Rev. Brian Ivey officiating. Burial will follow at Green Acres Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 1 until 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be James Hunt Jr., Donnie Whitehead, Clayton Whitehead, Al Whitehead Jr., Steve Whitehead, Johnny Walker, Donnie Robinson and Lester Grimmett.

Honorary pallbearers will be Al Whitehead Sr., Bill Hanks, James Hall, James Perkins, Wayne Trim, Jerry Trim and Mike Hood.

Anna E. Herrington

Anna E. Herrington went to be with the Lord Wednesday, March 5, 2008.

Although born in Grimsley, Tenn., she was a longtime resident of Vicksburg and was retired from the Waterways Experiment Station. She was an active member of Gibson Memorial Methodist Church, Joy Fellowship, Methodist Cursillo, Salvation Army Auxiliary and National Association of Retired Federal Employees.

Preceded in death by her husband, Joe F. Herrington, she is survived by her children, Gary and Jody Dykes of Vicksburg and Ben and Wanda Chappell of Memphis; her grandchildren, Todd and Luann Dykes and Dr. Calvin and Dana Masterson, all of Vicksburg; Larry and Denise Futrell and Darin Chappell, all of Memphis; her great-grandchildren, Raegan Dykes, Joshua Jonah, Anna McKenzie, Olivia and Sophie Masterson of Vicksburg, and Eden Futrell of Memphis, all her treasures; also her loving caregivers Karla Creighton and Phyllis Tingle.

Services will be held at Gibson Memorial Methodist Church at 11 a.m. today. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the service.

Pallbearers will be Bob Armstrong, Dr. Paul Ballard, Bill Flateau, Charles Haley, Donald Oakes, Tom Shreve and Marvin Anderson.

Honorary pallbearers are Pastor Mike Field, Dr. Lee Griffin, Dr. Calvin Masterson, Erwin and Sylvia Baylot, members of Cursillo and members of Gibson Memorial Methodist Church.
