Clayton Michael Davidson
Clayton Michael Davidson died Thursday, March 13, 2008, at River Region Medical Center. He was 57.
Mr. Davidson was a lifelong resident of Vicksburg. He was a former parole officer and for a number of years an employee of Waterways Experiment Station and a veteran of the Navy.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Alvin B. and Willie Myrl Davidson; and one brother, Robert Davidson.
Survivors include his son, Joshua Davidson of Vicksburg; two sisters, Sandra Cain and Dianna Davidson, both of Vicksburg.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Westminster Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Scott Reiber officiating. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the hour of the service at the church.
Leroy Kent
ROLLING FORK — Leroy Kent died Friday, March 14, 2008, at his home in Rolling Fork. He was 93.
Mr. Kent was a former resident of Delta City before moving to Rolling Fork. He had worked as a farmer and for the state highway department, Rolling Fork Police Department, Sharkey County Sheriff’s Office, Sharkey-Issaquena Ambulance Service and Glenwood Funeral Home until his retirement in 2002.
He was a member of First Baptist Church in Rolling Fork.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Katie Chaney Kent, six brothers, one sister and a great-grandson.
Survivors include seven daughters, Mary Elizabeth Cooper and Sarah Lee Cooper, both of Glen Allan, Betty White of Cary, Jean Bland of Brandon and Katie Lou Evers, Lillian Vineyard and Annie Tharp, all of Greenville; 13 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at First Baptist Church in Rolling Fork with the Revs. Millard L. Caulder and Jimmy McClendon officiating. Burial will follow at Hollandale Cemetery in Hollandale with Glenwood Funeral of Rolling Fork in charge.
Pallbearers will be Keith Woods, Randall Woods, Louis Roberts, Randall Whitworth, Howard Schackelford and Bubba Keever.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the men’s Sunday school class at First Baptist Church in Rolling Fork, Dr. Danny Jackson, the Rev. Reese Kyzar and Breland Yelverton.
George William Ray
ARCOLA — George William Ray died Friday, March 14, 2008, at University Medical Center in Jackson. He was 65.
Mr. Ray was born in Frisco City, Ala., and moved to Arcola at an early age and graduated from Hollandale High School. He retired from BellSouth after 38 years. He was a member of the Thomas Gaddis Masonic Lodge in Hollandale and the Sons of the Confederate Veterans, Benjamin G. Humphreys Camp, in Indianola.
He was a member of Leland United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Hardy Hayes and Ruby Adair Nelson Ray.
Survivors include his wife, Carole Tolliver Ray of Arcola; four daughters, Bethany Taylor of Marks, Kearney Ray of Hollandale, Miranda Ray of Vicksburg and LeLane Ray of Arcola; one brother, Kenneth Ray; one sister, Carolyn Elliott of Southaven; three grandchildren and one great-grandson.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Lake Washington First Baptist Church in Glen Allan with the Rev. Jimmy McLendon officiating. Burial will follow at Hollandale Cemetery under the direction of Boone-Wells Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 4 until 6 Sunday at Boone-Wells Funeral Home in Greenville.
Pallbearers will be J.E. Floyd, George Gardner, Pat Pickle, Jimmy Garrett, Steve Sweet Sr. and Dan McCaskill.
Honorary pallbearers will be Clayton Malone, Buddy Wilson, Earl McCown and Donnie Welch.
Memorials may be made to the March of Dimes, Leland Humane Society or the American Diabetes Association.
