Henry E. Cloud

Henry E. Cloud died Sunday, March 16, 2008, at the Mississippi State Veterans Home in Jackson. He was 93.

Born in Vicksburg, Mr. Cloud was the son of the late William B. Cloud and Georgia Maxwell Cloud. He was a member of Company B 106th Engineers Group with the National Guard before World War II, then served in the war in the Army as a first sergeant with the Headquarters Engineer Model Makers Detachment. He and his wife owned and operated Cloud’s Heating, Air-Conditioning, Plumbing and Appliance Co. for 36 years before their retirement.

He was a former member of the Vicksburg Rotary Club and Gideon’s International.

Mr. Cloud was a life member of the Salvation Army Board of Directors and a member of Crawford Street United Methodist Church and the Men’s Bible Class.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Louise C. Cloud.

He is survived by two daughters, Ann C. Knapp of Newberry, Fla., and Sharon Cloud of Vicksburg; one son, Dr. William Henry Cloud of Los Angeles; and four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Riles Funeral Home with the Rev. Geoffrey Joyner, pastor of Crawford Street United Methodist Church, and Dr. John G. McCall, pastor emeritus of First Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. Thursday until the service. Pallbearers will be George Hunt, Dr. Walter E. Johnston Jr., Richard Knox, Carey Grantham, Herb Wilkinson, Robert Morrison III and Cooper Morrison.

Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Paul Pierce III, Bobby Odom, Raymond Henderson and members of the Company B Engineer Group.

Memorials may be made to Crawford Street United Methodist Church, 900 Crawford St., Vicksburg, MS 39180 and to The Salvation Army, 530 Mission 66, Vicksburg, MS 39183.

Patsy Vanderford Null

Patsy Vanderford Null died Friday, March 14, 2008, at her home. She was 41.

A homemaker, Mrs. Null was a Vicksburg resident.

She is survived by her husband, Eric Null of Vicksburg; two daughters, Summer Null and Skylere Null, both of Vicksburg; her mother, Imogene Vanderford of Vicksburg; and two brothers, Ricky Vanderford of Redwood and Gerald Vanderford of Rolling Fork.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Tutor Funeral Home in Magee. Burial will follow at Galilee Cemetery in White Oak.

Edna Clarice Pownall

Edna Clarice Pownall passed away Sunday morning, March 16, 2008, at River Region Medical Center. She was 81.

Born in Waynesboro, she was the daughter of Shelton and Edna McRae. Mrs. Pownall was a longtime resident of Vicksburg. She and her late husband owned and operated a business on Halls Ferry Road until 1968 when they retired. She was a member of Highland Baptist Church.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Jason Bernard Pownall; a son, Robert Allen Pownall; and grandson, Douglas Renfroe.

She is survived by her sister, Ruby Taylor of Waynesboro; her children, Ronald Pownall Sr. of Vicksburg, Debbie Askegren of Lafayette, Colo., and Douglas Pownall of Tarpon Springs, Fla.; three grandsons, Ron Pownall Jr. of Vicksburg, Jason Pownall of Tarpon Springs and David Lee of Vicksburg; six granddaughters, Danielle Whitlock of Tarpon Springs, Heather Pownall of Durham, N.C., Laurie Meyer of Kodiak, Alaska, Mary Matthews of Boulder, Colo., Marty Olivia of Lafayette, Colo., and Dawn Irons of Vicksburg; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Freeman Funeral Home, 1305 Skyland Drive, Waynesboro, MS 39367. Burial will follow at Mount Zion Baptist Church in Waynesboro. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the hour of the service at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be James Sumrall, Ron Pownall Jr., David Lee, Shelby Irons, Jason Pownall, Christopher Lee and Jordan Lee.
