Oscar Cosey Sr.

AKRON, Ohio — Oscar Cosey Sr. died Friday, March 14, 2008, in Akron, Ohio. He was 67.

Mr. Cosey was born in Jefferson County to the late Alex “Mike” Cosey and Minerva Brown-Cosey. He was a resident of Akron for more than 40 years.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Catherine January-Cosey; one son, Gary Cosey; a sister, Amanda Cosey; a brother, Oneal “Jack” Cosey; and a grandson, Marques DuBoise.

Survivors include two daughters, Sgt. 1st Class Patricia Cosey and Andrea Faye Cosey, both of Akron; two sons, Oscar Cosey Jr. and Eric Darnell Cosey, both of Akron; a stepson, McKinley January of Los Angeles; three sisters, Anita Cosey-January and Zella Mae Cosey, both of Fayette, and Frances Cosey Ballard of Lorman; two brothers, David Cosey of Fayette and Alex Cosey Jr. of Port Gibson; and grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends, including Diane Bryant and Melanie Smith of Akron.

Memorial services will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Mount Israel Baptist Church in Fayette.
