Pelahatchie man held for copper theft from casino|[04/28/08]

A Pelahatchie man was arrested this morning and charged with embezzlement for stealing $600 worth of copper wire from a construction site at a local casino, said Lt. Bobby Stewart of the Vicksburg Police Department.

Johnny Craven, 43, 102 Purvis St., an employee of Keyes Mechanical, a construction company working at Ameristar Casino, 4116 Washington St., was in police custody at 8:45 this morning.

The theft was reported at 8:55 p.m. Friday.

arrested for pot sale

A Vicksburg man was arrested Friday and charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, said Lt. Bobby Stewart of the Vicksburg Police Department.

Steven Baker, 30, 2225 Letitia St., was arrested at 2:15 p..m. at 148 Elizabeth Circle. He was released on $2,500 bond, Stewart said.

Vicksburg pedestrian robbed on Drummond

Vicksburg police were called to a report of strong armed robbery Friday at 3:30 p.m., after a victim said he was walking along Drummond near Dewitt Street and was attacked by six or seven men, said Lt. Bobby Stewart of the Vicksburg Police Department.

The victim was knocked to the ground and the men stole his wallet, which contained $50.

TVs, dog, liquor missing in burglaries

Four burglaries were reported to Vicksburg police over the weekend, said Lt. Bobby Stewart of the Vicksburg Police Department.:

A blue heeler dog, described as being black and gray between 4 and 5 years old and weighing 40 pounds, was taken from a yard in the 600 block of Lee Street at 4 p.m. Friday.

A 19-inch Samsung TV, a Stanley toolbox with tools, a GE washing machine, a Maytag dryer and a Sunbeam microwave, with a value totaling $1,574, were reported stolen from a home in the 2300 block of North Washington Street at 7:38 p.m. Friday when entry was gained through the front door.

A 42-inch Sony plasma flat-screen TV, valued at $600, and a 32-inch JVC flat-screen TV, valued at $1,400, were reported stolen from a home in the 700 block of U.S. 61 North Friday at 10:35 p.m.

Three bottles of Ciroc vodka valued at $80, three bottles of extra dry gin valued at $40 and two bottles of Grey Goose vodka valued at $40 were reported stolen from The Liquor Store, 2080 S. Frontage Road, at 1:45 a.m. Sunday.

Two injured in wreck on highways 80, 27

Two Warren County residents were treated and released from River Region Medical Center, a hospital spokesman said, after a wreck at U.S. 80 and Mississippi 27, according to a report from the Vicksburg Fire Department

Jeffery Luckett, 24, 110 Tower Drive, and Cheyenne Emery, 15, 2501 Paxton Road, Lot 37, were both passengers in a vehicle that collided with an 18-wheeler at 3:12 p.m. Sunday.

No other injuries were reported, and no other information was available.
