Man jailed in purse-snatching outside restaurant|[04/29/08]

A Vicksburg man was arrested Monday on charges he robbed a woman as she left a restaurant on April 19.

Danny Miller, 26, 1205 Hayes St., was picked up following a traffic stop at about 1 p.m. at Halls Ferry Road and Cherry Street, Vicksburg Police Lt. Bobby Stewart said. He is accused of approaching a woman from behind as she was leaving the El Sombrero, 1820 S. Frontage Road, and snatching her purse.

The woman chased the robber and he threw the purse out the window of a vehicle as he drove out of the parking lot.

Miller remained in the Warren County Jail this morning on a $10,000 bond.

Tools, generator, winch missing in burglaries

A generator, a Come Along winch and various tools were missing in two city burglaries reported to Vicksburg police Monday.

At 7:05 a.m., a Coleman 5000 Watt generator valued at $600 and a 2 1/2-ton Come Along valued at $300 were reported stolen off a trailer parked in the 3500 block of U.S. 61 South.

Tools valued at $100 were reported stolen from a storage shed in the 1000 block of Common Circle. Police received the report at 8:30 a.m.

Copper hot again in weekend thefts

Copper thefts, reported last week to be skyrocketing in 2008 as compared with 2007, continued to outnumber other thefts as the Warren County Sheriff’s Department reported seven burglaries during the weekend and on Monday.

Twenty feet of copper pipe was reported missing from a home in the 4900 block of Halls Ferry Road. The report was received at 11:27 a.m. Monday.

At 7:37 a.m. Monday, $1,056 in copper wire was reported stolen in the 4700 block of Gibson Road.

In a residential burglary in the 1300 block of Division Street, $3,000 was stolen from a purse. The report, which was inside the city limits, was received at 11:10 a.m. Sunday.

At 6:15 p.m. Friday, $40 in aluminum cans was reported stolen in the 200 block of Rancho Road.

Also in the 200 block of Rancho Road about 20 minutes earlier, $100 in copper wire was reported stolen from a home.

At 3:01 p.m. Friday, a tire and rim valued at $200 was reported stolen in the 6900 block of U.S. 61 South.

A Craftsman push lawn mower valued at $200 was reported missing from the back porch of a home in the 100 block of Abraham Drive. The report was received at 10:40 a.m.

Warren County Sheriff’s Department records officials reported last week that 10 copper thefts had been reported in the county in 2008, contrasting with 11 in all of 2007. In the city, records showed 16 copper thefts in 2008 as compared with 18 in all of 2007.
