BOSWELL, Pa. – William H. “Bill” Kennedy, formerly of Vicksburg, died Thursday, April 17, 2008, in Boswell, Pa. He was 76.

Mr. Kennedy, a native of Boswell, was stationed in the U.S. Coast Guard in Vicksburg from 1953 until 1956. He retired from Bethlehem Steel in Johnstown, Pa., after 33 years.

He was a member of Happy Valley Baptist Church in Somerset, Pa., and he had been a Sunday school teacher and superintendent at Jerome Lutheran Church in Jerome, Pa.

Mr. Kennedy is survived by his wife of 51 years, Jane Steen Kennedy, a native of Vicksburg; two sons, William Roy Kennedy of Boswell and James Kennedy of Carlisle, Pa.; his daughter, Janene Kennedy Miller of Halifax, Pa.; and three granddaughters.

Services were in Boswell.

Jose Alejandro Saldana

TALLULAH – Funeral services for Mr. Jose Alejandro Saldana will be at 10 a.m. Monday, May 12, 2008, at St. Edward’s Catholic Church with the Rev. Ferre D’Cruz officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery, Tallulah, under the direction of Crothers-Glenwood Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 1 until 6 p.m. Sunday, May 11, 2008, at the funeral home.

Mr. Saldana died Wednesday, May 7, 2008, at his home. He was 84.

Mr. Saldana was born April 24, 1924, in Mercedes, Texas, and had lived in Madison Parish since 1951. He was a retired farmer and a member of St. Edward’s Catholic Church of Tallulah. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He loved caring for his animals, especially his horses. He loved the outdoors and all that was in it. He watched over his children and his grandchildren with glistening eyes and a smile. He loved having family close.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jose Encharnacion Saldana and Cresencia Longoria Saldana; three sisters, Maria Pena, Austina Hernandez and Esterfina Sanis; and three brothers, Jessie Saldana, Benigno Saldana and Ruben Longoria.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Florencia Lopez Saldana; three sisters, Angelina Saldana Morin and Armanda Saldana Rodriguez, both of Texas, and Felipa Lopez of Transylvania, La.; four sons, Jose E. Saldana and wife Amelia of Vicksburg, Alejandro Saldana and wife Louise, Juan M. Saldana and wife Deborah and Gilibaldo Saldana and wife Darlene, all of Tallulah; and six daughters, Angelita Hernandez and husband Juan of Monroe, La., Josephina Hodge and husband L.C. of Mangham, La., Esperancia “Hope” Grigsby and husband Johnny Lee of Tallulah, Estefana Wicker and husband Mike, Jula Bridges and husband Larry, and Louisa Whitehead and husband Ernie, all of Vicksburg. He had 38 grandchildren and 60 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Alex Saldana, Oscar Hernandez, David Saldana, Samuel McPherson, Marcus Wicker, Matthew Bingham, Gilibaldo Saldana Jr., Joshua Saldana, Cody Bridges and Jonathan Whitehead.

Honorary pallbearers will be Juan Marcus Hernandez, Justin McPherson, Joey Saldana, Joseph Saldana, A.J. Saldana, John Richard McPherson, Tinney Hodge and Juan M. Saldana Jr.

Mary K. Schultz

Mrs. Mary K. “Cissie” Schultz died Tuesday, May 6, 2008, at River Region Medical Center. She was 91.

A native and lifelong resident of Vicksburg, she was the daughter of the late Albert and Ruby Tucker Kleinman. She was a graduate of Culkin Academy and served some 34 years as dietician and cafeteria manager at Culkin School.

Mrs. Schultz was a member of the DAV Auxiliary and St. Michael Catholic Church.

She was preceded in death by a son, Joey Schultz; granddaughter, Angelia Schultz Shiers; and three brothers, Walter “Bee” Kleinman, Albert “Red” Kleinman and Harry Lee “Woody” Kleinman.

She is survived by her husband of 72 years, Herman J. Schultz; one sister, Lois Bowers; two granddaughters, Stacy Schultz Hartley and Julie Haynes; and three great-granddaughters, Ginger Shiers, Magen Hartley and Jordan Hartley, all of Vicksburg.

Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Friday, May 9, 2008, at Frank J. Fisher Funeral Home with the Revs. P.J. Curley and Patrick Farrell officiating. Burial followed at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Visitation was from noon Friday until the service.

Pallbearers were Larry Hartley, Martin Pace, John Kleinman, Billy Bowers, David Bowers, Travis Wayne Vance Jr., Red Kleinman and Tim Wright.

Honorary pallbearers were Cooper Trevillion, Bob Harrell, Jim Harrell, Gerald Harmon, Bill Seabergh, Chris Hartley, Benson Kleinman and Shane Gray.
