The St. Aloysius golf team moved within one round of winning their second straight Class 1A state championship by shooting a combined 165 on Thursday at Bay Pointe Country Club in Brandon.
The final round, an 18-hole event, is scheduled for today. The teams played nine holes on Thursday after heavy rain delayed the start.
Charles Marsalis shot a tournament-best 39 and Alex Lanier scored a 41 as the Flashes led second-place Cathedral by 20 strokes. Thrasher is 28 strokes behind the Flashes in third place.
John Lindigrin shot a 42, which tied the highest score for any of the competition. J.R. Golding shot a 43 and Chris Ingram notched a 51. The top four scores for each team are counted.
The Flashes won the state tournament last season as current Delta State standout Chase Smith won the individual title. If the Flashes complete this year’s victory, it will mark the third time in four years the Flashes have won the state championship.
