Richard Vernon

The Rev. Richard Vernon died Thursday, May 29, 2008, at Shady Lawn Nursing Home. He was 97.

Mr. Vernon was a retired pastor of Shady Grove Baptist Church in Vicksburg, Mount Zion M.B. Church in Port Gibson and Old Pleasant Hill M.B. Church in Claiborne County. He was a member of Stringer Lodge No. 1 F.&A.M.

He is survived by his wife, Maggie Vernon of Memphis; sons Tommy Vernon and Richard Thomas Vernon, both of Dallas; daughters Josie Clark, Marilyn Sawyer of Memphis and Helen McCulleum of Dallas.

W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
