ACHIEVEMENTS
Sha’Kyra Thomas of Vicksburg has been recognized as a U.S. National Honor Student Award winner by the U.S. Achievement Academy. A student at Vicksburg High School, her name will appear in the academy’s official yearbook. She is the daughter of Odessa Warren and David Thomas and the granddaughter of Leon and Cellastine Thomas and the late Ethel Smith, all of Vicksburg.
Javoris DeShawn Wallace has graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in Baytown, Texas. He is the son of Carl M. Wallace and the grandson of Estella Lewis of Vicksburg.
Nancy Bleakley of Vicksburg has received the certificate in women’s ministry from Leavell College of New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. Married to Albert Bleakley, she is women’s ministry director at Highland Baptist Church. She has a bachelor of arts degree in history from the University of Florida and a master of science in library science from State University of New York at Albany.
Elizabeth Seratt has been selected as a 2008-2009 Emissary for the Mississippi School for Mathematics and Science. She will serve as an official student spokesperson for the school and will assist the Admissions Office in various recruitment and public relations activities. Majel Victoria Purvis of Hattiesburg has been named a President’s Scholar at Millsaps College. A chemistry major with a pre-medical emphasis, she received the Freshman Mathematics Award and the General Chemistry Award. She will travel to Sweden and Washington, D.C., in August with a professor of biochemistry to present
a research paper. A member of Kappa Delta sorority, she is the daughter of Vic and Gaye Purvis of Oak Grove. She is the granddaughter of Majel and Tommy Johnson of Vicksburg.
