David Jermeal Becker

David Jermeal Becker died Sunday, June 22, 2008, at University Medical Center in Jackson. He was 26.

Mr. Becker was a member of Travelers Rest M.B. Church and was a choir member. He was a self-employed painter.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Terrlyn Leetran Becker; and grandparents, Lewis Yates Sr., Willie Taylor and Rosie Lee Harris Taylor.

Survivors include his parents, Lewis Yates Jr. and Sharon Becker, both of Vicksburg; a son, Robert Evans of Vicksburg; a daughter, Tyler Becker of Vicksburg; his paternal grandmother, Juanita Yates, and an aunt, Bobbie Rounds, both of Vicksburg who reared him; his maternal great-grandmother, Clottie Allison of Vicksburg; and aunts, uncles and other relatives, including the Rounds, Yates, Harris, Taylor, Reynolds, Dorsey and Scott families.

Kate S. King

Kate S. King died Monday, June 23, 2008, at Regency Hospital in Jackson. She was 89.

Born in Mangham, La., she was the daughter of the late Richard Hents Swaggart and Nellie Choat Swaggart. A resident of Vicksburg for more than 60 years, Mrs. King had been a resident of Ridgeland for the past 12 years. She was a graduate of the Vicksburg Infirmary School of Nursing, where she received her diploma in nursing.

Mrs. King was a member of Gibson Memorial United Methodist Church, where she was one of the oldest members.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin L. “Dolly” King.

She is survived by two daughters, Mary Frances Warren of Vicksburg and Jan Marts of Brandon; five granddaughters, Kelley Sanders, Terrie Warren, Jenny Humphries, Carol Pu’u and Barbara Meeks; three grandsons, Jim Warren, David Marts and Ronnie Marts; 10 great-grandchildren; one brother, R.H. “Harry” Swaggart of Monroe, La.; and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Riles Funeral Home with the Rev. Greg Hazelrig, pastor of Gibson Memorial United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 12:30 p.m. until the hour of the service.

Pallbearers will be Kevin Sanders, Joe Lynn, Russell Humphries, Donny Meeks, Carl Terry Hudson, Donald Oakes, Johnny O’Bannon and Ronnie Marts.

Honorary pallbearers will be Terrell Price, James Warren, Wayne Jamison and Bendel White.

Cherise Anjanine Harris Monk

Cherise Anjanine Harris Monk passed away unexpectedly on June 21, 2008, in her parents’ home in Vicksburg. She was born on Nov. 5, 1971, at Mercy Regional Hospital. She was baptized at Bovina Baptist Mission. Due to illness she did not attend church regularly, but she loved the Lord Jesus Christ and prayed earnestly. We know that Cherise’s death was a sudden shock, but she now dwells in heaven with others who loved her.

She is survived by her parents, Joe Wayne Harris Sr. and Ruby Garrison Harris; and her precious children, Kirstie Valen White, age 18; Kristen Tia White, age 16; Haleigh Danielle Monk, age 8; and Cameron Lee Monk, age 3.

She also was expecting her first grandchild in November. She is also survived by her brother, J.W. Harris Jr. ,and his wife, Anita, and their children, Gage Harris, Brandi Harris, Rachel Harris and Corban Harris; her brother, Mark Harris and his wife, Debbie, and their children, Eric Harris Jr. and Alicia Harris; her sister, Melonie Mackey and her children, David Mackey and Angel Mackey. Other survivors include numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Riles Funeral Home. Dr. John G. McCall, pastor emeritus of First Baptist Church of Vicksburg, will officiate. Interment will be at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be at the funeral home from 9 a.m. until the hour of the service.

Pallbearers are David Mackey, Gage Harris, Eric Harris, Dane White, Brian Pugh, Ken Matthews, Tyler Sullivan and Donald Schuman.

Honorary pallbearers are Lonnie Bell, Mack Taylor, Malcolm Dunnaway, Ray English, Steve English, Jessie Davenport, Bobby McMillan, Felton Townsend, Terry Anthony and Tom Isaac.

Lloyd David Yelder Sr.

Lloyd David Yelder Sr. died Saturday, June 21, 2008, at University Medical Center in Jackson. He was 49.

A Vicksburg native, Mr. Yelder was a 1977 graduate of Vicksburg High School. He was a veteran of the Air Force, serving as a munitions specialist. He was a member of Mount Olive M.B. Church. He had worked as a long-haul driver for Builders Transport of Tuba, Ala.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Sophronia McGloster.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Ann Yelder of Vicksburg; four daughters, Lori McAfee of Jackson, Latasha Culberton of Las Vegas, and Jylla Yelder and Asia Yelder, both of Vicksburg; three sons, Lloyd Yelder Jr. and Dominique Maddox, both of Atlanta, and Lamar Culberton of Las Vegas; his father, George McGloster of Vicksburg; his birth mother, Essie Yelder Owens of Detroit; one sister, Richetta Aiken of Detroit; one brother, Barney Owens of Detroit; his maternal grandmother, Essie Yelder of Detroit; four grandchildren; and other relatives, including Verdell Yelder Whitaker of Pontiac, Mich., and Margie Herron of Vicksburg and members of the Remsey, Herron, Kirkland, Davis and Joyce families.

Dillon-Chisley Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
