The fight against soaring fuel costs has become a global one, and global positioning systems might be used in Vicksburg Warren School District’s battle.
Superintendent Dr. James Price said Thursday night during the regular meeting of the school board the systems might be added to each of the district’s 152 buses so routes, students and stops may be more easily compared and minimized.
In a meeting in which few decisions were made, Price said he expected more discussion about the GPS proposal during next month’s meeting.
Separately, the former Armory Building on Lee Street, which was given to the school district by the City of Vicksburg, will be getting new flooring. The building will be used to house Vicksburg High School’s JROTC program and serve as an alternate gym for the school. The flooring is necessary to make the gym functional.
Though initially the building will house only the JROTC program and the alternate gym, other programs and activities will eventually be available on the property, officials said.
