City man gets 10 years on 3 charges|[06/28/08]

A Vicksburg man was sentenced this week to 10 years in prison for shooting into his mother’s house, kicking in her door and holding a gun to her head while threatening to kill her.
Shcobey Darnell Harris, 28, 1220 Prospect St., pleaded guilty to charges of shooting into an occupied dwelling, burglary and felony weapon possession in the Aug. 5, 2007, incident at Confederate Ridge Apartments on U.S. 61 North. In addition to his prison term, Harris was ordered by Warren County Circuit Judge Frank Vollor to serve five years of probation and pay $312.50 in court costs and assessments.
In other actions in Warren County Circuit Court during the week that ended Friday:
Michael Sherwood Farmer, 40, 615 Dubley St., was sentenced to 10 years in prison after pleading guilty to sale of a controlled substance. Circuit Judge Isadore Patrick also ordered Farmer to pay $312.50 in court costs and assessments. Farmer pleaded guilty in a March 17, 2006, offense.
Freddie L. Herron, 51, 3055 N. Washington St., pleaded guilty to possession of a controlled substance. He was sentenced by Patrick to serve 123 days in prison, followed by three years of probation, and ordered to pay $312.50 in court costs and assessments. Herron’s conviction stems from his Jan. 9 arrest at Johnson Drive and North Washington Street.
Sonya Wells, 33, 1245 Mount Alban Road, No. 16, pleaded guilty to possession of Oxycontin and was handed a six-year sentence by Vollor. However, the court found Wells eligible for the 9th Circuit District Drug Court, and her sentence will be held in abeyance pending completion of the program. Wells was also ordered to pay $2,112.50 in fines, court costs and assessments. She was arrested July 6, 2007, in the 1500 block of Washington Street.
In Issaquena County Circuit Court during the week that ended Friday:
Troy Piggs, 39, no address available, was sentenced to complete the 9th Circuit District Drug Court program after he pleaded guilty to grand larceny. Piggs was sentenced by Vollor to four years, but the court found him eligible for the Drug Court, and his sentence is being held in abeyance pending completion of the program. He was also ordered to pay $3,362.50 in fines, court costs, assessments, restitution and Drug Court fees. Piggs pleaded guilty in the thefts of a 1992 Pontiac Grand Am and 1997 Mercury Cougar, which were reported Jan. 24.
