Two more children’s clothing stores are coming to the Outlets at Vicksburg, hastening the expected expansion process, officials said Tuesday.
“We’re just thrilled that the companies had not only the confidence in the center and Craig Realty, but in the community,” said Outlets manager Margaret Gilmer. “It will (hurry the expansion) since we don’t have any more space.”
Gymboree is to open this month, while The Children’s Place is expected to open in early August, leaving one vacancy in the 30-store property.
Opening children’s clothing stores appears to be a nationwide trend, Gilmer said. She attributed it to aging baby boomers becoming grandparents and a resurgence of births.
Three other stores in the complex sell children’s clothing: Carter’s, Gap and Osh Kosh B’Gosh. Osh Kosh is owned by Carter’s.
In May, the Outlets at Vicksburg announced the addition of two stores, Bath and Body Works, which opened in late May, and Perfumania, which opened June 27. Bath and Body Works employs about 20 people, while Perfumania has about six.
In addition to the expansion, plans for which should become definite later this year, Gilmer said, the complex will get a facelift later this summer. She said the expanded area is being pre-leased, but did not name the potential tenants.
Gymboree, which sells clothing for sizes newborn through 12, will open next to Perfumania in a 2,400-square-foot space. It will hire six or seven employees, Gilmer said. Gymboree has 96 outlet locations nationwide.
The Children’s Place will be near the Leggs Hanes Bali & Playtex store in a 5,250-square-foot space formerly occupied by Welcome Home, a home and gift store. The Children’s Place will employ about 20 people. The company operates 906 stores nationwide, including two other outlets in Mississippi. The Children’s Place sells clothing for children ages newborn to 10.
The outlets’ growth truly pleases Gilmer.
“We’re doing great, our tenants are holding their own, and we couldn’t be happier. If anything, we’re seeing a few less tourists,” she said.
The outlets are owned by Craig Realty of Newport, Calif. Both new stores have about half of their outlets located in other Craig Realty developments, Gilmer said.
The only vacancy left in the property is the space formerly occupied by the Bible Factory Outlet. Gilmer said potential tenants are viewing the space.
