Vicksburg man charged in arson of rented car|[07/02/08]

A Vicksburg man was arrested Tuesday night and charged with arson, police said.

The arrest of Jermaine Dorsey, 26, 3012 Green St., served a warrant for the arson of a rental car near his home, Vicksburg Police criminal intelligence analyst Suzan Ebeling said. He was picked up at about 11:30 p.m. at Drummond Street and Bowmar Avenue.

Dorsey’s warrant stemmed from Sunday, when police and fire units responded to a car fire in the 3000 block of Green Street. The vehicle, a 2008 Pontiac G6, belonged to Avis Car Rental. No injuries were reported.

Dorsey was in the Warren County Jail this morning on a $75,000 bond.

Jeep, air-conditioner among missing items

A vehicle, air-conditioning unit and purse were among the missing items in six burglaries in the city and county dating to Monday.A $200 chain saw was reported stolen from a shed in the 4700 block of Washington Street. Vicksburg Police received the report at 4:11 p.m. Monday.At 5:41 p.m. Monday, police received a report of an auto burglary on Interstate 20 near Halls Ferry Road. Reported stolen from the Ford Taurus, which had been left on the interstate because of a flat tire, was $10 in change and a $25 pocket knife.A 6,000-Watt Homelite generator was reported stolen from a home in the 100 block of Buford Drive Tuesday. The generator was valued at $640.93. The Warren County Sheriff’s Department received the report at 8:48 a.m.A residential burglary in the 2100 block of Military Avenue was reported to police at 9:10 a.m. Tuesday. Missing was a window air-conditioning unit.A purse containing $10, credit cards, a checkbook, prescription pills and other personal items was reported stolen in an auto burglary in the 1800 block of Baldwin Ferry Road Tuesday. The purse was valued at $35. Police received the report at 11:08 a.m. Tuesday. According to the report, the vehicle, a 2004 Jeep Liberty, had been left unlocked.At 9:36 p.m. Tuesday, the sheriff’s department received a report of an auto theft in the 1300 block of Freetown Road. Reported stolen was a 1975 Jeep Cherokee. Also missing were the front cap for a GMC Sierra, a chrome bumper, a tool box with tools and a .32 caliber revolver. The total value of the missing items was $5,775.
