Martha Lee Brooks
Services for Martha Lee Brooks will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Williams Funeral Home with the Rev. Thomas Parker officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be today from noon until 5 p.m. at the funeral home and from 9:30 a.m. Saturday until the service.
Mrs. Brooks died Monday, June 30, 2008, at River Region Medical Center. She was 68.
She was a member of Mount Olive M.B. Church. She worked as a nurse’s assistant and also as a cook for Tasty Foods and Crowley’s Smoke House.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Simmie Brooks Sr.; her parents, Roosevelt Pampley and Elizabeth Smith; and a brother, James Johnson.
Survivors include two sons, David “Boo” Brooks and Simmie “Peabody” Brooks Jr., both of Vicksburg; eight grandchildren; and friends and other relatives, including members of the Diggs, Hebron, Thomas, Wynn, Parker, Buchanan, Spratley, Regan and Brown families.
Gerald Antonio Christian
FLOWOOD – Gerald Antonio Christian died Friday, June 27, 2008, at his home in Flowood. He was 44.
Born in Vicksburg, Mr. Christian was a 1982 graduate of Warren Central High School. He received a bachelor of science degree in 1990 from the University of Mississippi, where he was a member of Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity. He was a veteran of the Army and had worked as a land surveyor and map technician in Flowood. He was of the Baptist faith.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Melphonsia T. Joshua and Jeff Christian; and his father.
Survivors include his mother, Jeffretha M. Christian of Vicksburg; and other relatives, including Judith Stampley and Dorothy Carson of Vicksburg.
W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
Carl Lee Johnson
HERMANVILLE – Carl Lee Johnson died Sunday, June 29, 2008, at University Medical Center in Jackson. He was 51.
He was preceded in death by his father, Andrew Johnson.
Survivors include his mother, Lou Ella Johnson of Hermanville; four sons, Carl Thomas of Crystal Springs, Mitchell Smith and Kwmaine Smith, both of Hermanville, and Kareem Thomas of Dallas; two daughters, Latoya Smith of Hermanville and Anita Thomas of Port Gibson; six brothers, Robert Johnson of Port Gibson, Floyd Johnson, Anthony Johnson, Andrew Johnson and Henry Johnson, all of Hermanville, and Jimmy Ray Johnson of New Orleans; 10 sisters, Mary Hulbert, Katie Johnson, Molly Johnson-Wells, Emma Green, Blanche Johnson-Jenkins, Robertstein Turner and Shirley Johnson, all of Hermanville, Hazle Hulbert of Port Gibson, Lee Sara Amos of Hattiesburg and Deadria Turner of New Orleans; and other relatives and friends.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church in Hermanville with the Rev. Johnnie Hughes officiating. Burial will follow at the Holly Grove Baptist Church Cemetery with Thompson Funeral Home of Port Gibson in charge of arrangements. Visitation will be today from 1 until 5 p.m. at the funeral home and Saturday from 1 p.m. until the service at the church.
Devin Marcell Moore
Services for Devin Marcell Moore will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Vicksburg Municipal Auditorium with the Rev. Jonathan Hamlin officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 until 7 tonight at W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home and Saturday at the auditorium from 10 a.m. until the service.
Mr. Moore died Wednesday, June 25, 2008, at River Region Medical Center. He was 23.
Mr. Moore was a food server at Ameristar Casino, a student at Jackson State University and a member of 61 North Bypass Church of Christ. He was a 2003 graduate of Warren Central High School and received an associate degree from Hinds Community College.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Johnnie Moore and Betsie and Joe Graves.
Survivors include his parents, Eddie L. Graves Sr. and Helen Moore Williams, both of Vicksburg; two brothers, Collin Carvey Jr. and Eddie Graves Jr., both of Vicksburg; three sisters, Nicole Smith, Kimberly Graves and Amber Graves, all of Vicksburg; a grandmother, Jackie Coleman of Vicksburg; and aunts, uncles and other relatives, including members of the Graves and Moore families.
James Lucas Price Jr.
Services for James Lucas Price Jr. were at 11 a.m. today at Greater Zion Traveler Cemetery in Utica with the Rev. Jessie Brown officiating. Burial followed under the direction of W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home.
Mr. Price died Sunday, June 29, 2008, at Vicksburg Convalescent Home. He was 65.
Mr. Price was born in Warren County.
He was preceded in death by his father, James “Jim” Price; his mother, Azalene “Nap” Neal Price; two brothers, Eugene Price and Bobby Price; and one sister, Mary Price Lewis.
Survivors include three brothers, Johnny Lee Price of Chicago, Charles E. Price of Vicksburg and Eddie Ray Price of Baton Rouge; two sisters, Azalene Price and Dr. Brenda E. Price-Taylor, both of Chicago; and other relatives, including members of the Sweet, Price, Neal, Gibson and Barnes families of Vicksburg.
Preston Ladell Qualls
Services for Preston Ladell Qualls will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Mount Carmel Ministries with the Rev. Oscar Thompson officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery under the direction of W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home.
Mr. Qualls died Thursday, June 26, 2008, at his home in Vicksburg. He was 25.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Sylvester Rockhill and Lucille Champion Rockhill.
He is survived by a son, Preston Ladell Qualls Jr. of Vicksburg; two daughters, Kimbrial Amari Prestasia Qualls and Kendall Nicole Phillips, both of Vicksburg; his parents, Sylvester Rockhill of Pontiac, Mich., and Roedorthy Qualls of Vicksburg; three brothers, Sylvester Rockhill II, Alvin Rockhill and Calvin Rockhill, all of Pontiac; five sisters, Dametris Qualls and Lakisha Qualls, both of Vicksburg, and Celestine Rockhill, Debra Brinson and Carolyn Singleton, all of Pontiac; his maternal grandparents, Lena Moe Qualls and Roedorthy Epps, both of Vicksburg; and uncles, aunts and other relatives, including members of the Johnson, Bailey, Rockhill, Brown and Ross families of Vicksburg.
