Charlie L. Smith Jr.

JACKSON – Charlie L. Smith Jr. died Thursday, July 10, 2008, at his home in Jackson. He was 70.

Mr. Smith was a member of Campbell Chapel Church in Port Gibson, where he was a trustee and finance clerk. He was also a member of New Zion Lodge No. 161. He was retired from LeTourneau, where he had worked for 37 years.

Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie Smith Sr. and Sylvia Boines-Smith; a son, Earl Lamar Smith; a daughter, Cynthia Smith; and a brother, Willie A. Smith.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth Smith of Jackson; two sons, Ervin E. Smith of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Marvin Smith of Woodbridge Va.; two daughters, Valeria A. Carpenter of Jackson, and Vikki L. Robertson of Gaitherburg, Md.; four brothers, Franklin C. Smith and Carey Smith, both of Houston, Calvert Smith of Lorman and Dennis Smith of Vicksburg; two aunts, Pearlia M. Baskins of Chicago and Lucille Noble of Port Gibson; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Campbell Chapel Church with the Rev. James Jones officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 until 6 p.m. today at Thompson Funeral Home Chapel in Port Gibson and from 9 a.m. until the service Sunday at the church.

Lois Jane Smith

Lois “Jane” Smith died Tuesday, July 8, 2008, at River Region Medical Center. She was 59.

Formerly of Hattiesburg, Mrs. Smith was a counselor at Millcreek Rehabilitation Center, a substitute teacher for Jackson Public Schools and a member of Lynn Ray Road Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by a son, Allen Ray Smith Jr.; a brother, Roy Gerald Jeffcoat; and her parents, Bob and Constance Muirhead.

Survivors include her husband, Allen R. Smith of Vicksburg; a son, Jeremy Ray Smith of Vicksburg; a daughter, Angela Davis of Bassfield; four sisters, Cloyce Dell Mallot-Priest of Mendenhall, Gwendolyn Keys of Greenville, S.C., and Fausteanna Lara Martinez and Tammy Lara Kamenz, both of Ocala, Fla.; eight brothers, James Edward Jeffcoat of Jackson, Milcon Franklin Jeffcoat of Indianapolis, Ronald Grady Jeffcoat of Phoenix, Ariz., Paul Lara of Port St. Lucie, Fla., and Ricky Ernest Lara, Ernest Rayford Lara Jr., Patrick Lara and Kayato Lara, all of Ocala; and four grandchildren and one great-grandson.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Moore Funeral Chapel in Hattiesburg. Burial will follow at Dixie Cemetery with the Rev. Barbara O. Hite and Eric Tate officiating. Visitation will be from 5:30 until 8 tonight at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Glenn Blount, Dwayne Jordan, Eric Tate, Christopher Mallot, Dusty Gray and Richard Smith.
