Fugitive from car chase surrenders to police|[08/08/2008]

A Vicksburg man sought in a Thursday morning police chase was in custody this morning after turning himself in Thursday after hearing police were looking for him, Vicksburg police Lt. Bobby Stewart said.
Lester Miller, 18, 1623 Martin Luther King Drive, initially refused to pull over Thursday morning for a traffic stop after a patrolman recognized the car he was driving as a stolen vehicle and then ran from the car after it was stopped near Farmer and Fayette streets.
Today he faced charges of receiving stolen property. Separately, another man was charged Thursday with the theft of the car Miller is accused of driving. Kendrick Shelby, 31, 427 B Watts Ave., Natchez, was arrested in the 1600 block of Martin Luther King Drive at 12:37 p.m. and charged in the theft of the 2005 Hyundai Elantra in Natchez on May 16.
Both men remained in the Warren County Jail this morning awaiting their initial court appearance.
A 15-year-old who was in the car with Miller was charged with possession of a firearm by a minor and remained in custody at the Youth Detention Center this morning, Vicksburg police crime analyst Suzan Ebeling said. A second juvenile in the car was released to the custody of his parents after his arrest Thursday morning.
Vicksburg man held in theft of pickup
A Vicksburg man was arrested on Interstate 20 West near Indiana Avenue at 8:06 p.m. Thursday after a patrolman recognized the pickup he was driving as stolen, Vicksburg Police crime analyst Suzan Ebeling said.
Andrew Burton, 17, 3759 Gowall Road, was driving a 1997 Dodge reported stolen Thursday at 5:06 p.m. in the 200 block of Hildegarde Terrace, Ebeling said.
Burton was in the Warren County Jail this morning awaiting his initial court appearance.
A 12-year-old passenger was also arrested and was in the custody of the Youth Court this morning.
Vicksburg driver nabbed on the run in Delta
A Vicksburg man was arrested in Delta by marshals after he refused to pull over for a traffic stop at Bowmar Avenue and Drummond Street, Vicksburg Police crime analyst Suzan Ebeling said.
Charles L. Hall, 32, 5157 Mississippi 27, fled after a patrolman saw he was not wearing his seat belt and attempted to stop his 2005 black Chevrolet Impala.
Hall was charged with felony alluding, driving without insurance, failure to yield to lights and sirens and driving without a seat belt.
Hall remained in custody this morning awaiting his initial court appearance. A Vicksburg policeman who initially spotted Hall could not chase him immediately, but his description was broadcast on police radios and the Delta officer heard the dispatch before acting.
Chevrolet reported stolen at Ameristar
A tan 2000 Chevrolet Malibu valued at $8,000 was reported stolen at 1:12 a.m. today from the parking lot at Ameristar Casino, 4146 Washington St., Vicksburg police crime analyst Suzan Ebeling said. No tag information was available.
Vicksburg woman remains hospitalized after wreck
One Vicksburg woman was treated and released and another remained in good condition Thursday following a two-vehicle accident Saturday at 12:19 a.m. in the 2600 block of Oak Ridge Road.
Kathy Bryant, 51, 10253 Oak Ridge Road, remained at River Region Medical Center, and Amber McAllister, 21, 4909 Oak Ridge Road had been released Saturday, a hospital spokesman .
Both women were drivers and no passengers were injured.
