CRIME & FIRE * From staff reports

Three city fire trucks, a fire rescue unit, an ambulance and police rushed to a south Vicksburg street Friday night after a blaze was reported about 7:20 at 212 Central Drive.

No one was in the home. “We’re not sure how it started,” said Vicksburg Fire Department Battalion Chief Marion Cole. “It looks like it might have been in the attic or in a bathroom, but we don’t know.”

Eric Proctor, a Vicksburg police officer on scene, said, “It was just smoke; we never saw flames,” adding that neighbors had said the residents of the home were seen leaving about 10 minutes before the smoke was spotted.

“It appears to be mostly smoke damage,” Cole said.
