Trae Rutland and Michael Mosely each threw a touchdown pass Sunday, but Jackson State lost to Hampton 17-13 in the SWAC-MEAC Challenge in Orlando.
Rutland, a Mississippi State transfer, hooked up with former Southern Miss wide receiver Rodney Gray on a 32-yard TD to open the scoring, but Hampton scored the next 17 points to hold a 10-point lead midway through the fourth quarter.
Rashad Smith hauled in a 10-yard TD pass with 8 minutes, 6 seconds to play in the game, but the PAT was blocked. Rutland got intercepted inside the last minute to ensure the Hampton victory.
