Carl Ferdinand Andre

JACKSON — Carl Ferdinand André died Tuesday, July 22, 2008, at his home in Jackson. He was 79.
Born in Terry, Mr. André was reared in Vicksburg and had been a Jackson resident since 1955. He was a writer and a retired attorney and was a veteran of the Air Force.
He received a bachelor of arts degree at the University of Mississippi, his master’s degree in journalism at Louisiana State University and his law degree at Mississippi College School of Law.
He was a former account executive at Godwin Advertising and later worked for the Mississippi Attorney General’s Office. He worked in private practice and retired as risk manager of the University of Mississippi Medical Center.
Mr. André wrote a column for the Northside Sun, and his work was featured in local and regional publications. He was a member of the Rotary Club of North Jackson.
He was a former communicant of St. Andrew’s Cathedral, where he served on the Vestry, and was a member of St. Philip’s Episcopal Church.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Martha Yerger André; two daughters, Sigrid André Goodspeed of Madison and Sarah Hester André of Austin, Texas; one son, Carl Ferdinand Yerger André of Oxford; a sister, Sigrid André Conway of Jackson; six grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
A Requiem Eucharist will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Philip’s Episcopal Church. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. Saturday in the parish hall of the church.
