Mr. Mixon and Miss Brown exchange vows June 21 at Triumph Church

Rubin Earl Mixon II and Tamika D. Brown were married at 5 p.m. June 21, 2008, at Triumph Church. Minister Peter Shelley officiated at the double-ring ceremony.

The bride is the daughter of Terry Ann Brown of Vicksburg. She is the granddaughter of Katie Louise Larry.

The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Wesley Sr. of Vicksburg. He is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Glen Dunn, Katherine Woodland and Patrick Bingham.

The altar area was flanked with double-fan candelabrums and centered with a spiral candelabrum, all tied with large magenta bows and adorned with cascades of pink, white and magenta roses, pink gerbera daisies, white alstroemeria, pink hydrangeas, magenta ranunculus, astilbe, leatherleaf and baby’s breath. Center aisles held tapered candelabrums, each adorned with pink-tulle skirting, floor-length magenta bows and floral rings of hydrangeas, roses and baby’s breath.

A program of nuptial music was provided by C.J. Williams, accompanied by Kevin Winters, Michael Bunch and Thomas Bunch. “Sentimental” was played for the lighting of the candles. Michael Bunch sang “Momma” for the seating of mothers, grandparents and godparents. The minister, groom and best men entered to “Made to Love You,” also performed by Michael Bunch. The wedding party entered to “Wedding Song,” followed by “After all is Said and Done” for the bride’s entrance. Winters performed “The Lord’s Prayer” following the exchange of vows and rings. “So High” was sung for the lighting of the unity candle. The recessional was “God is Good all the Time.”

The bride was given in marriage by her uncle, Teddie Williams Sr. She wore a strapless, designer gown of deep ivory and champagne satin with crystal-detailed appliques on the bodice. A cathedral train with a flared vent completed her dress.

She wore a designer tiara of sterling silver and crystals.

She carried a bouquet of pink gerbera daisies, pink and magenta roses, white alstroemeria, pink hydrangeas, magenta ranunculus and astilbe stems gathered in a pearl-beaded holder.

Maid of honor was Rosalind McMiller of Vicksburg. Matron of honor was Sharon Brown of Vicksburg. They each wore tea-length dresses of tea-rose satin with a chiffon bodice. They each carried handheld bouquets of pink and magenta roses, hydrangeas and ranunculus.

Bridesmaids were Chari Tolliver of Anchorage, Alaska; Nicole Smith and Erica Tolliver, both of Jackson; and Fredreana Banks, LaShae Butler, Valeria Drayton, Sherice Glasper, Sylwanda Masters, Rhonda Rush, Jinger Smith, Shayla White and Stephanie Shelley Yancy, all of Vicksburg. Junior bridesmaid was Rolonda Lovette of Vicksburg.

They each wore strapless, designer gowns of tea-rose chiffon and satin with a handkerchief hemline. They carried handheld bouquets of pink gerbera daisies, magenta and pink roses, white alstroemerias and pink hydrangeas tied with pink-satin ribbons.

The attendants wore matching pearl earrings, gifts from the bride.

Flower girls were Kaitlyn Brown and Lauren Butler. They each wore satin, tea-length dresses with a chiffon overlay embellished with detailed appliques and a scalloped edge. They carried magenta and pink rose petals in white-wicker baskets.

Michael Wesley Jr. and Mario Grady, both of Vicksburg, served as best men. Groomsmen were Quinton Tisdale of Roanoke, Va.; Frederick Gilliam of Birmingham, Ala.; and Timothy East, Allen Jones, Marquise Lovette, Lee Charles Lumpkin, Cornelius Royal, Deonte Selvy, Jimmy Stowers, Terrance Sims, Bobby Wesley Sr. and Shayon Yarrington, all of Vicksburg. Junior groomsman was Ronnie Smith Jr. of Vicksburg.

Ushers were Johnny Gibson, Frederick Gilliam and Stanley Gleese.

Ring bearer was Malik Butler of Vicksburg.

Bible carrier was Ashton Wardley of Vicksburg. Romeo Jackson of Vicksburg served as broom carrier.

The bride’s mother wore a three-piece pantsuit of ivory chiffon satin. She wore a corsage of pink roses accented with baby’s breath and chiffon ribbons.

The groom’s mother wore a tea-length, bridal-satin gown with an ivory-chiffon overlay. She carried a small, handheld arrangement of roses and baby’s breath interspersed with chiffon bows.

A reception followed at the Vicksburg Auditorium.

The area was centered with a massive display featuring a bride and groom ice sculpture surrounded by assorted fruits.

The head table held a large cascade of magenta, white and pink roses, calla lilies, baby’s breath, ranunculus, astilbe, fern and ivy.

Graduated columns trimmed in ferns, ivy garland and magenta chiffon adorned the stage.

The bride’s six-tiered, buttercream cake was accented with arrangements of magenta roses, ranunculus and ribbon.

The groom’s square cake, a two-tiered chocolate confection, was decorated with chocolate-covered strawberries.

Rose-colored linens adorned tables throughout the area. Food tables held massive arrangements of pink calla lilies and ivy.

Hostesses were Terri Brooks, Brenda Brown, Roslyn Darden, Paulette Smith, Sandra Mayfield, Michelle Thomas, Brenda Williams and Karen Winters.

Special assistants were Pamela Durman, Geralline Wilkerson, Willie Walker, Georgia Hicks, Larry Prentiss, Duncan Smith and Artie Williams.

For a wedding trip, the couple will travel to Washington, D.C., at a later date.

They will make their home in Roanoke.

The bride is employed at Medeco High Security Co. in Salem, Va. The groom is employed at Geiger Excavating Inc. and is an assistant at Serenity Funeral Home in Roanoke.

Out-of-state guests were from Texas, Georgia, Virginia, Illinois, Alabama and Alaska.

Rehearsal dinner

The bride’s mother hosted a rehearsal dinner at the American Legion on Main Street.

Showers

The bride’s mother hosted a miscellaneous shower in the VIP room at Horizon Casino.

Employees of Medeco honored the bride with a miscellaneous shower.
