A child found after missing from family members for more than a day is in the care of relatives this morning following an hours-long search involving multiple law enforcement agencies.

Daniel Rosas, 10, was taken to the Warren County Sheriff’s Department Monday afternoon by residents of Ring Road who had found the boy walking along the dark, south Warren County road late Sunday night, Sheriff Martin Pace said.

“The child was not harmed. Thank God he’s OK,” Pace said, adding there was no indication Daniel knew who took him in for the night.

An aunt, Claudia Isela Rosas, reported the Warrenton Elementary School student missing Sunday night after he reportedly left the Buford Drive house about 12 hours earlier following an argument.

Social workers with the Mississippi Department of Human Services talked with family members for four hours Monday before the boy was released to an uncle who lives inside the city, said Cesar Carrillo, 17, a cousin.

Warren County sheriff’s investigators handled the case, notifying the Mississippi Highway Patrol parishes in Louisiana and alerting agencies nationwide via the National Crime Information Center.

A small, family-organized search for the boy grew into a countywide effort by midafternoon, with fliers passed out at some local businesses.

“We are glad that he is home,” Carrillo said Monday night.
