William F. Floyd

Mr. William F. “Bill” Floyd died Sunday, Oct. 12, 2008, at Promise Specialty Hospital. He was 85.

A native and lifelong resident of Vicksburg, he was the son of the late Benjamin P. and Mary Temple Floyd. He retired from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers with 38 years of service. He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran, serving in World War II. He was of the Methodist faith.

Mr. Floyd was lovingly known as “my lawn mower repairman” by many. He spent his time walking in the mall and at Riverfront Park, watching his beloved Mississippi River and its boats go by.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Flora Floyd; sisters, Nancy Tompkins, Dora Branning, Margie Mastronardi and Mary Lee Floyd; and brothers, Bennie Floyd, Pat Floyd and Johnnie Floyd.

Mr. Floyd is survived by his sons, Ronnie Floyd of Conway, Ark., and Donald Floyd of Meridian; daughter, Cheryl F. Swan of Vicksburg; and five grandchildren, Monica F. Allison, Healy F. Swan, Mary S. Monteleone, Daniel Joseph “Joe” Swan III and Elizabeth Lauren Floyd.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Frank J. Fisher Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. James Biedenharn officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from noon until the hour of the service.

Pallbearers will be Josiah Monteleone, Scott Nunnelee, Travis Wayne Vance, Ernest Williams, David Browman, Mark Allison and Leon Cefalu.

Honorary pallbearers will be Daniel Joseph Swan IV, Rowdy Nosser, Ben Hand, Walter Whatley, George Wells, Alvin Taylor, Dr. Daniel Edney, Mrs. Jackie Brewer, Dr. David Halinski, Dr. Michael Davis, Dr. Stephen Sudderth and employees of Mutual Credit Union, Battlefield Drugs, Goldie’s, 20/20 Eye Clinic and the staff of Promise Specialty Hospital.
