Services for Sylena Brown Thomas will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Lakeview Memorial Funeral Home with the Rev. Booker T. Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from noon until 6 p.m. at the funeral home with the family being present from 5 until 6 p.m.

Mrs. Thomas died Sunday, Oct. 19, 2008, at Vicksburg Convalescent Home. She was 79.

She was a member of Holy Hill M.B. Church and had worked as a cashier for a number of years.

Mrs. Thomas was preceded in death by her mother and stepfather, Judy and E.C. Smith; her father, Ike Brown; and a sister, Claudia Bell Olds.

Survivors include her husband of 49 years, Hosie Thomas Jr. of Redwood; a stepson, Alfred Thomas of Vicksburg; a brother, Willie Smith of Milwaukee; her caregiver, Alberta Wheeler of Vicksburg; two stepgrandchildren; one great-grandchild; and other relatives and friends, including Ernestine Cisney, Claudette Haggard, Anthony Cleveland, the Thomas, Brown, Spicer, Walton, Evans, Willliams, Spratley, Walton, Martin, Randle, Davenport, Jackson, Walker and Jones families.
