Terri Snazelle of the Mississippi Department of Health will be the featured speaker in an upcoming installment of the Clinton Community Nature Center’s nature lecture series.

Snazelle will speak on his study, Mercury in the Post-Katrina Environment, which sought to determine if Hurricane Katrina increased the heavy metal exposure — especially mercury — of children living in the impacted area.

The lecture will be at 7 p.m. Nov. 20 at the nature center at 617 Dunton Road. It is free, but donations by nonmembers are encouraged.

‘Mississippi Roads’ to feature local home

A new season of “Mississippi Roads,” in high definition television, has begun. An upcoming episode, to be shown at 7 p.m. Nov. 6, will feature Linden Plantation.

The Mississippi Public Broadcasting series will also feature a visit with a Booneville artist who uses feathers as her canvas, a stop at a vintage candy and cola store in the Fondren District of Jackson and a trip to Natchez to the state’s only winery.

“Mississippi Roads” is broadcast on MPB, local cable Channel 7, at 7 p.m. each Thursday and 5:30 p.m. each Sunday.

Renowned pianist to perform at WCU

Pianist Michael Gurt, the Paula Garvey Manship Distinguished Professor of Piano at Louisiana State University, will perform in Hattiesburg on Oct. 27.

The concert is set for 7 p.m. in Smith Auditorium at William Carey University.

Gurt is a piano mentor at the Hot Springs Music Festival in Arkansas and served as head of the piano department at the Sewanee Summer Music Festival for 21 years. He has degrees from the University of Michigan and the Juilliard School. Gurt is a recording artist on the Naxos, Centaur and Redwood labels.

Fashion show to benefit homeless ministry

Mac’s Cove Apparel Brand will host its first Wingard Home Ministry Benefit Fashion Runway Show. The event is set for 6:30 p.m. Nov. 15 at Mynelle Gardens, 4736 Clinton Blvd., in Jackson.

Comedy, murder mystery headed to Trustmark Park

“Red Rum,” a comedic murder mystery dinner theater, will be Nov. 13 at the Crystal Springs Ford, Lincoln, Mercury Café.

Seating will begin at 6 p.m., and dinner will be served at 7. Tickets are $38 per person.

In “Red Rum,” Scarlet and Red Rumgardner are hosting their annual Red Rum Runner’s Toys Masquerade Ball.  Scarlet tries to keep things running smoothly, even though there is a dead body and a nosey Inspector Merlock Bones messing up her seating chart.
