Elbert Raines

EL CAMPO, Texas — Elbert “Sonny” Raines died Sunday, Nov. 9, 2008, at his home in El Campo, Texas. He was 76.
Mr. Raines was a retired self-employed truck driver. He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 251, Veterans of Foreign Wars, New Life Assembly Church and was a veteran of the Army.
He was preceded in death by a son, Thomas Lee Raines.
Survivors include his wife, Willie Merle Raines of El Campo; a daughter, Bonnie Jean Raines Goodman of Worthington, Ind.; four stepsons, Donald “Donnie” Means Sr. of Victoria, Texas, Ronald “Pete” Means of Nome, Texas, Royce Means of El Campo and Bill Means of Alvarado, Texas; two sisters, Ruby Parker of Logansport, Ind., and Patricia Hutchinson of Vicksburg; grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; and other relatives and friends including Bobby Raines of Vicksburg.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at New Life Assembly Church in El Campo with the Rev. Danny Roberts officiating. Burial will follow at Garden of Memories Cemetery with military honors under the Auspices of the American Legion No. 251.
