Police: Shots fired into home of elderly woman on Ford

Shots were fired Tuesday night into a residence in the 100 block of Ford Street, Vicksburg police Sgt. Sandra Williams said.

An elderly woman told police she was sitting in her living room watching television when she heard gunshots.

Police found at least two bullet holes inside the residence, Williams said. There was no indication of the type of weapon used, and no record of whether anyone else lives in the residence or was there at the time of the shooting.

Two in county jail after arrest at casino

Two Vicksburg residents were in the Warren County Jail this morning after being arrested at Riverwalk Casino Tuesday night by Mississippi Gaming Commission agents,  jail records showed.

Lynnetta Douglas, 37, 3112 Commons Circle, was arrested at 7 and charged with felony conspiracy to cheat and felony cheating by an employee. Keithen Smith, 38, 302 Skyview Lane, was arrested at 11:37 and charged with felony cheating and felony conspiracy to cheat.

Bond had not been set.

Carpet, gas stove, coins among missing items

Vicksburg police received reports of several home burglaries in the city Monday and Tuesday, Sgt. Sandra Williams said.

* At 2:44 p.m. Monday, in the 1300 block of East Avenue, jewelry and other items were reported missing, including six diamond rings valued at $2,000; two herringbone necklaces valued at $500; a gold watch valued at $200; Opium perfume valued at $50; a PlayStation 2 game system valued at $200; and DVDs. The home was entered through a window.

* A resident in the 700 block of Harris Street reported at 3:07 p.m. Monday that $5 in quarters and gold chains valued at $600 were missing. The front door had been opened with a tool.

* Also on Monday, a home in the 100 block of Sherwood Drive was reported burglarized at 4:44 p.m. Stolen were a Frigidaire gas stove valued at $1,000 and a wreath and ceramic planter valued at $125.

* On Tuesday, a home in the 2300 block of Pearl Street was entered through a basement window. Items were scattered about, but nothing was reported stolen.

* At 3:36 p.m. Tuesday, a residence in the Riverchase apartment complex at 1201 South St. was entered through a bedroom window. Carpet from two bedrooms was removed.

Yukon, Frontier reported missing

Two vehicles were reported missing Monday and Tuesday:

• Today, Vicksburg police were investigating a vehicle theft reported at 6:26 p.m. Tuesday, Sgt. Sandra Williams said.

A woman told police she had borrowed the 1999 GMC Yukon and gone to the BP Max convenience store at 2700 Alcorn Drive, Williams said. She had left the vehicle running with the keys inside, and it was stolen while she was in the store, she told police. The vehicle has a NASCAR tag, No. 0706N12.

• At 5:55 p.m. Monday, a white 2000 Nissan Frontier, with Florida tag No. B851EX, was reported stolen to Warren County authorities. The vehicle had been parked in the 900 block of Blossom Lane.

One hurt in wreck at Halls Ferry, I-20

A wreck at Interstate 20 and Halls Ferry Road sent a Vicksburg woman to River Region Medical Center Tuesday night.

Vicksburg Fire Department rescue workers responded at 6:02 p.m. and took Lakeshia Sanders, 22, 125 Eastover Drive, to the hospital for treatment. No further information about the wreck or Sanders’ condition was available this morning.
