From staff reports
A Pearl man was in the Warren County Jail without bond Friday after being found in possession of a large quantity of stolen goods.
Edward Carroll Walker, 42, 103 Harle Circle, was charged with possession of stolen firearms, grand larceny and burglary, said Sheriff Martin Pace. He was also being investigated for a prior felony conviction, which could result in an additional charge of being a felon in possession of firearms, Pace said.
Walker was stopped about 2:30 p.m. by sheriff’s deputies on U.S. 61 North, just south of Mississippi 3. A vehicle matching the description of the one he was driving had been linked with a residential burglary in the Laura Lake subdivision off Halls Ferry Road that was reported Wednesday, said Pace.
Walker was initially found to be driving with a suspended license. A search of his vehicle turned up three shotguns, three rifles, cameras, jewelry, electronic equipment including Xbox 360 game systems, weed trimmers and lawn tools.
He was also towing a trailer carrying a Husqvarna riding lawn mower.
The sheriff’s office has connected Walker with the Laura Lake burglary as well as the theft of a 4-wheeler that was reportedly stolen from a home in Oak Park subdivision Monday.
Pace said Walker is believed to have stolen the trailer and lawn mower in Yazoo City Friday.
Several investigators and deputies were involved in the investigation, which is ongoing and includes sheriff’s offices from Yazoo, Hinds and Rankin counties, Pace said.
One charged in burglary of Greenwood Drive home
A Vicksburg woman was in custody Friday after being charged with burglary and grand larceny, Warren County Sheriff Martin Pace said.
Carol Katrina Clark, 21, 5427 Gibson Road, was arrested at 2:52 p.m. She was charged in the Oct. 28 burglary of a residence in the 100 block of Greenwood Drive, Pace said. Bond had not been set, pending an initial hearing.
Most of the stolen items have been recovered, but the investigation is continuing with at least one more arrest possible from the same burglary, Pace said.
Man in good condition after wreck on I-20
A Vicksburg man was in good condition, said a University Medical Center spokesman Friday, after being injured in a wreck Nov. 14 that killed a mother and daughter from Louisiana.
Kevin McGrew, 28, 303 Pleasant Valley Drive, had been in fair condition — one down from good — earlier in the week.
The wreck occurred on Interstate 20 just east of the Wisconsin Avenue overpass. McGrew was driving a 1995 Oldsmobile Delta 88 that collided head-on with a 1995 Eagle Vision going the wrong way on the highway. The driver of that vehicle, Karen Ann Morehead, 53, of Donaldsonville, died at the scene. Morehead’s mother, Adele Howser, 87, died early Monday morning.
McGrew might be released from UMC over the weekend, said a hospital spokesman.
