* Elected as 2008-2009 officers of the HCC Vicksburg Marketing DECA chapter were Pamela Knight, president; Breann Garrett, vice president; Jasmine Ward, secretary; Justin Lucas, community service representative; Brittany Chouccoli, reporter; Caneshia Scott, secretary; Tilon Bruce, Warren Central High School representative; and Charles Brown III, Vicksburg High School representative.

* Haley Jones, daughter of Philip and Teresa Jones of Vicksburg, has been elected corresponding secretary for the Kappa Alpha chapter of Phi Mu sorority at Mississippi State University. A sophomore majoring in kinesiology, she is a 2007 graduate of Vicksburg High School.

* Area Hinds Community College students named to the 2008-2009 edition of Who’s Who Among American Community and Junior College Students were Lafreeta Gaines of Utica and Angela Abernathy, Pamela Aycock, Cory Case, Lelia Clark, Michael David, Lucy Matthews, Sondra Moorhead, Lydia Nettle, Marta Roach, Lawrence Storey, Elizabeth Tatum, Connie Truett, De’Lisha Wiggins, Margeret Wigley and Tammy Woodward, all of Vicksburg.

Honor societies

* Lakena Nakiel Wiggins has been inducted into Golden Key International Honour Society at the University of Southern Mississippi. She is a sophomore at USM, where she is a member of the Afro-American Student Organization, The Legacy and Increasing Minority Access to Graduate Education. She is a Lucky Day scholar and was named to the president’s list. A 2006 graduate of Warren Central High School, she is the daughter of Sharon Reed and Melvin Wiggins and the granddaughter of Daisy Reed and James Reed.
