Juanita Turner January, born March 1, 1940, in the Philippines, died Friday, Dec. 5, 2008, at River Region Medical Center at the age of 68.
Mrs. January migrated to the United States from the Philippines in 1968 to San Diego, Calif. She had lived in Bremerton, Wash., and Newport, R.I.; and had been in Vicksburg for more than 15 years. She worked at Isle of Capri casino as a cage cashier and card dealer. She was a member of the Eastern Star.
She was preceded in death by her father, Hilario Comeque; and her mother, Florencia Albeza.
Mrs. January is survived by her husband, Robert James January; her three sons, Oscar Comeque and his wife, Gertrudes, of the Philippines, Orlando Comeque and his wife, Brenda, of the Philippines and Pepito Comeque and his wife, Rosario, of Kuwait; and her two daughters, Anecita T. Ong and her husband, Jose C. Ong Jr., both of New York, and Rosita C. Richardson of Vicksburg. She has 15 grandchildren and is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Dorothy January of Vicksburg, Bertha Burks and husband Ellis of Utica and Bernice January of San Diego; a nephew, Cedrick Burks and wife Annette of Utica; and niece, Yolanda Atkinson and husband Jejuan Atkinson of Utica.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 12, 2008, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 1512 Main St., with the Rev. Malcolm O’Leary, SVD, officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 until 7 p.m. Thursday at Lakeview Memorial Funeral Home. Family will be present from 5 until 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
