Wreck blocks I-20 East for hours

Interstate 20 had returned to normal by mid-morning after a wreck involving an 18-wheeler tied up traffic on the highway for several hours Sunday and today.

Six people were treated and released from River Region Medical Center as a result of the accident, which backed up traffic more than seven miles into Vicksburg city limits as authorities and salvage crews arrived.

The rig and a smaller passenger vehicle attempted to change lanes at the same time at about 4:08 p.m. Sunday on the interstate near Flowers, Mississippi Highway Safety Patrol Sgt. James Walker said.

Elizabeth Spalding, 52, was the driver of the 2009 Freightliner, according to information gathered from the Warren County Sheriff’s Department,which assisted in the hours-long cleanup. A passenger was Charles Spalding, no age available.

Dina Vasquez, 22, Carlos Alvarado, 23, Cesar Contrerao, 15, and Cindy Contrerao, 14, all of Lawrenceville, Ga., were inside a 2006 Honda Accord.
