A Christmas message

A Christmas card from a newspaper carrier was among the personal belongings of Malena Cotton Foster, who was born 10 years later after the card’s date of 1886. It includes a poem inside about delivering a newspaper and the role of the carrier. The card, which was shared by nephew Gordon Cotton, was delivered to customers of the Vicksburg Commercial Herald, a newspaper that combined with The Vicksburg Herald and later, in 1926, was bought by The Vicksburg Evening Post. The back of the card wishes customers a happy New Year. (Submitted photos)
