4 city men jailed in sexual battery

Four Vicksburg men were arrested Sunday and charged with sexual battery, Lt. Bobby Stewart of the Vicksburg Police Department said.

Jemarkese Wright, 20, 1405 Locust St., Christopher Newell, 20, 280 Curry St., William Jones, 18, 280 Curry St., and Everett DeFrance, 18, 227 High Hill Drive, were in Warren County Jail pending arraignment this morning in Vicksburg Municipal Court, Stewart said. 

The four men are accused of assaulting a 19-year-old woman Saturday in the 100 block of Kings Crossing.

Vicksburg woman held for weapon, assault

A Vicksburg woman was arrested on Thursday and charged with aggravated assault and possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, Lt. Bobby Stewart of the Vicksburg Police Department said.

Amelia Mixon, 36, 1210 Crawford St., was in the Warren County Jail without bond pending arraignment today in Vicksburg Municipal Court, Stewart said.

Mixon was arrested at the Police Department after being brought in for questioning related to a domestic disturbance, according to Stewart.

City man arrested for third DUI charge

A Vicksburg man faces charges of third-offense DUI, a felony, after police arrested him following a Thursday accident, Lt. Bobby Stewart of the Vicksburg Police Department said.

Harvey Funches, 38, 349 Funches Road, was being held without bond at the Warren County Jail after police arrested him following a single-car accident near Wisconsin Avenue and Bazinsky Road.

Funches was arraigned on Saturday in Vicksburg Municipal Court, and bond was set at $5,000.

Cash, jewelry, bike among missing items

A bicycle, audio equipment, a television, cash and jewelry were stolen in four residential burglaries reported to police since New Year’s Eve, said Lt. Bobby Stewart of the Vicksburg Police Department.

In the first, reported Wednesday, a Next bicycle valued at $64 was taken from a home in the 1300 block of South Street.

In the second, reported Friday, a JVC stereo valued at $450 and $468 in cash were stolen from a home in the 1900 block of Martin Luther King Drive. 

In the third, reported Saturday, a 37-inch Emerson flat-screen television valued at $1,300 was taken from a home in the 1300 block of Second North Street.

In the fourth, reported Sunday, $660, a gold diamond solitaire ring valued at $300 and a gold ruby ring valued at $300 were stolen from a home in the 800 block of Main Street. 

10 car burglaries reported in city

Weapons, audio equipment and cash were among the items stolen in nine car burglaries reported to Vicksburg police from New Year’s Eve through Sunday, said Lt. Bobby Stewart of the Vicksburg Police Department.

In the first, reported to police Wednesday, an Alpine CD player valued at $180 was taken from a 1994 Crown Victoria parked in the 1300 block of Mulberry Street, Stewart said.

Reported the same day, a Sony CD player valued at $139 and a 300-watt Punch amplifier were stolen from a 1993 Buick Roadmaster in the 1200 block of Crawford Street, Stewart said.

On Thursday, thieves took an HP laptop computer valued at $900 and carrying bag valued at $100 from a 2008 Chrysler Aspen in the parking lot of Pemberton Square mall, Stewart said. 

Reported on Friday, $370 and a Pioneer CD player valued at $500 were stolen from an unidentified vehicle parked in the 3900 block of Washington Street, Stewart said.

Reported Sunday:

* A Browning .270-caliber semi-automatic rifle with a Nikon scope valued at $750 and a 9-mm semi-automatic pistol valued at $350 were taken from a 2000 Chevrolet Silverado parked in the 300 block of Lake Hill Drive.

* The owner of a 2007 Nissan Altima said $10 in change was taken from the car in the 1200 block of Adams Street. 

* A Derringer .460-caliber pistol valued at $150 and a Fein power tool set valued at $400 were taken from a Ford F-250 pickup parked in the 1500 block of Walnut Street.

* A Motorola cell phone valued at $100 and $300 were stolen from a Buick Enclave parked at Bowmar Baptist Church, 1825 U.S. 61 South. 

* A purse valued at $10 and containing $20 were missing from a 2005 Ford Explorer parked at Pemberton Square mall. 

* A High Point 9-mm handgun was taken from a 2000 Lincoln Town Car parked in the 200 block of Demby Drive.

Stolen car found on Martha Street

A car reported stolen Tuesday from the 1600 block of Cain Ridge Road was recovered Thursday in the 1600 block of Martha Street, Lt. Bobby Stewart of the Vicksburg Police Department said.

No arrests were made in the theft of the 2006 Mazda 3, he said.
