Slashing leaves one in hospital, one in jail

A slashing attack during an argument Monday resulted in one Vicksburg man hospitalized in Jackson and a second being arrested on aggravated assault charges, police Lt. Bobby Stewart said.

Keithen Smith, 28, who lives in the 300 block of Skyview Lane, was transferred to University Medical Center, where he was in fair condition this morning.

Marcus Wales, 33, 3655 Wisconsin Ave., was arrested at 8:48 p.m. after police went to River Region Medical Center to investigate a report of a man seeking treatment for facial and abdominal cuts.

Police believe a box cutter was used in the attack at a home at 3657 Wisconsin Ave., but the weapon was not recovered, Stewart said.

Wales was in Issaquena County Jail on $30,000 bond.

City man charged with uttering forgery

A Vicksburg man was arrested by police Monday and charged with four counts of uttering of forgery, Lt. Bobby Stewart said today.

Demetris Ford, 21, 115 Abraham Drive, was accused of passing personal checks that had been reported stolen. He was arrested at Regions Bank, 3405 Halls Ferry Road, at 3:04 p.m.

Ford was also being held for the Mississippi Department of Corrections for probation violation. Bond had not been set, Stewart said.

Robber without gun gets money, runs

A hotel robbery was reported to police at 1:01 a.m. today, Lt. Bobby Stewart said.

A clerk at the Fairfield Inn, 20 Orme Drive, said a man asked about room rates, left the hotel briefly and came back and demanded money. He stole about $250 and left on foot.

The man did not appear to have a weapon, and no one was injured.

Vicksburg man jailed for selling cocaine

A Vicksburg man was in Warren County Jail after being arrested on three counts of selling cocaine, jail records said.

Kevin Smith, 27, 362 China Grove Road, was arrested by sheriff’s deputies at 3120 S. Frontage Road at 8:20 p.m.

Smith’s bond had not yet been set this morning. No details about the arrest were available.

Purse, cash missing from parked truck

An auto burglary was reported in the city Monday at 9:47 p.m., Lt. Bobby Stewart said.

A purse containing $180 was reported stolen from a 1994 Ford F-150 pickup in the 3300 block of Halls Ferry Road.

The truck was reported unlocked.

Two-car wreck injures city woman

A two-car accident at 2565 U.S. 80 on Monday at 5:14 p.m. sent a Vicksburg woman to River Region Medical Center.

Cynthia Scott, 44, 200 Amber Leaf Drive, told rescue workers that her vehicle was hit from behind by a vehicle driven by Austin Smith, 16, 53 Grange Hall Road.

Smith refused treatment, rescue officials said.

Scott was treated and released.

Jackson man held for drug court

A Jackson man was in Warren County Jail this morning for a drug court sanction, jail records said.

Troy Piggs, 40, 428 Hooker Court, was arrested by deputies at 8:53 p.m. at a Vicksburg shelter for abuse victims.

No other information was available.
