Oak seedlings offered to state’s landowners
Native oak seedlings are available to landowners at a reduced cost through Mississippi’s Acorns for Wildlife Initiative.
The program is an effort of the National Wild Turkey Federation’s Mississippi State Chapter and Greater Jackson Chapter, the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks and the Mississippi State University Extension Service.
Hard mast, or nuts such as acorns, are a source of food for wildlife during the winter, but are in short supply in Mississippi.
The seedlings are available to any landowner. Orders are being accepted on a first-come, first-served basis, and will be available in February.
