Charges multiplied for suspect in jail

A Vicksburg man in the Warren County Jail on check forgery charges filed by the city has been identified in at least 12 other forgery cases investigated by the sheriff’s department, Sheriff Martin Pace said today.

Demetris Ford, 21, 115 Abraham Drive, was arrested Jan. 5 by Vicksburg police, charged with four counts of uttering of forgery. He was also being held for probation violation, police Lt. Bobby Stewart said Jan. 6.

In a separate investigation, the sheriff’s department has named Ford as a suspect in check forgeries at businesses throughout Vicksburg, Pace said.

Ford was expected to be formally charged with the additional counts today, and more charges may be filed, Pace said.

Shoes, electronics missing on Ironwood

A burglary was reported in the 200 block of Ironwood Drive Monday at 7:09 p.m.

Reported stolen were a Dell laptop valued at $900, a Sony digital camera valued at $400, three Magnavox DVD/CD players valued at $50 each, and an HP printer valued at $100 and tennis shoes valued at $50.

Guns, CD player among missing items

Vehicle and residential burglaries were reported to Vicksburg police Monday, Lt. Bobby Stewart said.

At 11:49 a.m., a window air conditioner valued at $200 was reported stolen from a residence in the 1300 block of East Avenue.

At 2:20 p.m., a Hi-point .45-caliber semi-automatic pistol valued at $350 was reported stolen from a 2000 Mercury Mountaineer in the 1900 block of Hope Street.

At 4:30 p.m., a Premiere CD player valued at $200 was reported stolen from a 1989 Chevrolet pickup in the 1900 block of Grove Street.

Motorcyclist injured in wreck with vehicle

A wreck involving a motorcycle and a vehicle resulted in a Vicksburg man being admitted to River Region Medical Center.

Motorcyclist William Loflin, 58, 385 Warrenton Road, was injured in the wreck at Veto and Washington streets Monday at 7:34 p.m.

He was in fair condition this morning, a hospital spokesman said.
