LAKE PROVIDENCE — James Edward Hamilton Sr. died Thursday, Jan. 8, 2009, at his home. He was 91.

Mr. Hamilton was born in Lake Providence. He was a veteran of World War II.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Orlando Patrick Hamilton and Sallie Fousse Hamilton; seven brothers, Nick Hamilton Sr., Joe Hamilton, Cecil Hamilton, Harry Hamilton, Richard Hamilton, Borgia Hamilton and Jack Hamilton; two sisters, Nell Hamilton Patrick and Rosemary Hamilton Heard; and a granddaughter, Erica Monique Harper.

Survivors include his wife, Joan Elizabeth Brewton Hamilton of Lake Providence; two sons, Timothy Richard Hamilton and James Edward Hamilton Jr., both of Lake Providence; three daughters, Jennifer Silman and Rosalind Jane Harper, both of Oak Grove, and Libby Delanie Sydes of Lake Davenport, Fla.; 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

A funeral Mass will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Lake Providence with the Rev. Ferre Cruz officiating.

Memorials should be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital in Memphis or to the American Cancer Society.
