Diaper deal lands Vicksburg man in pokey

A diaper-stealing caper ended in the arrest of a Vicksburg man Tuesday, police crime analyst Suzan Ebeling said today.

Shawn Russell, 32, 579 Burnt House Road, was observed leaving Wal-Mart SuperCenter at 2150 Iowa Ave. with two packs of diapers for which he had not paid, Ebeling said.

The store’s loss prevention officer tried to stop him, but Russell drove away. Police were notified and arrested him on U.S. 61 South.

Russell was charged with third-offense shoplifting, a felony. Bond was set at $5,000, and he remained in jail this morning.

In the end, the diapers were returned to Wal-Mart.

Furniture taken while owner is away

A woman out of town for two weeks returned to find her bedroom furniture missing, Vicksburg police crime analyst Suzan Ebeling said today.

The burglary to the home in the 1300 block of Hope Street was reported Tuesday at 9:55 a.m. Besides the bedroom set valued at $1,500, clothing valued at $280, a wall picture valued at $100, two TVs valued at $300 total and DVDs valued at $65 were reported stolen.

Also Tuesday, a burglary was reported by Falco Lime, 1543 Haining Road, at 1:15 p.m. Stolen were 12 tires valued at $350 each and four aluminum rims valued at $400 each.

AC, electronics missing in county

Electronic equipment and an air conditioner were the targets of two burglaries in Warren County, the records office said.

Sunday at 9:14 a.m., an auto burglary was reported in the 20 block of Mingos Road. Stolen from a 2006 Ford Focus were a Pioneer Premiere Class D amplifier valued at $739, a Pioneer Premiere CD-receiver-radio valued at $320 and 30 CDs valued at $420.

The compressor to an air conditioner valued at $4,000 was reported missing Tuesday at 10 a.m. from a home in the 5600 block of Gibson Road. The unit had been taken in the past two months.

Two men in jail on money laundering

Money-laundering charges have been filed against two men arrested by the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics Tuesday, jail records showed.

Kendeyette Harris, 27, 3651 Newman Ave., Jackson, and Antonio Aviles, 31, 3818 W. Oregon Ave., Phoenix, Ariz., were arrested on Interstate 20 at 7 p.m.

They were being held at the Warren County Jail pending their initial hearing.
